What would be a good design for a fire-safe home?

What is a good way to build a fire-proof home? And what do you think would be a good design to help firefighters tackle the fire easier and keep the fire from spreading?

Quite simply, the best thing you can do , no matter what type of construction you use, is to install a residential sprinkler system. Most residential fires are controlled by sprinkler systems prior to the FDs arrival.

Even if you build a home that won't burn, the contents will. A residential sprinkler system will complete a fire proof home.
Reply:A concrete home
Reply:In addition to concrete, they use a product called Gypcrete that is poured over wooden sub-flooring. It has a higher fire rating the thicker it is, and can be easily used in existing structures as well. As far as walls are concerned, steel studs with 5/8" thick sheetrock [or thicker by building up 2 or more layers], fire rated doors with automatic closers, and sprinkler systems are all things that are much cheaper in new construction vs. remodeling. Many or all of these are mandatory in multi family dwellings in the U.S.
