What kind of design should my tattoo be?

I want to get a tattoo, although I probably won't for a few years (underage). But I was wondering what kind of design I should get. And where I should put it. I had 2 sisters that both have tattoos in between their shoulder blades. And I was thinking to get mine there too, but I'm not sure. I'm also thinking about getting a tree of life. See, I'm into natural stuff, like the tree of life, the OM sign, stuff like that. I want something that is deep and spiritual, that means something, not just some butterfly. Help?

What kind of design should my tattoo be?
This is such a huge decision because it will be with you forever. It is better to not choose one based on a poll or what you think is cool at the time, but something that has real significance to you personally.
Reply:Its your body, you need to choose... you could go on-line to see what you find or go to tattoo shops and see what the artists can draw up.
Reply:It's good to go with something that reflects your personality. Keep in mind that this is something that you will live with for the rest of your life! That's what you should base the design on...something that is timeless...something that will grow old with you. Personally, I have a celestial moon on my left ankle and sun on the right ankle; I have been called a "walking ouija board" for many years, now I look like one! hehe! This is something I can live with forever...my moon and sun reflect who I am, and that makes the tattoos work.
Reply:I have a tattoo in my lower back it is lady bug and it is lovely, the thing is choose a part of your body you can cover since one day you will be a professional and you won't be respected if you have visible tattoos and on the other hand choose a part of your body that doesn't change too much with the time so you tattoo doesn't change they way it looks!
Reply:DRAGON
Reply:I think you should get a design that comes natural to you. you have a few years to find a tattoo that you love, look for one, go on-line, read books that have spiritual meaning behind them and see if there are any symbols that you really connect with. A tatt. is going to be with you forever so make sure it comes from within, because of art that is on your skin should represent your individuality, find one for yourself, be original don't let someone tell you what kind of tattoo to get, you should come up with a design on your known, it will make that much special and that much more spiritual, and meaningful so you actually love your tattoo. But once you have a design, for smaller designs your back, ankle, arm, hip, bellybutton all work fine. bigger designs go with the back, or the arm, there are also places you could place it in spots that are private but for a tattoo like this it should be open and shown to the world.
Reply:um........
Reply:You might want to think about something that's truly meaningful to you. I didn't know exacty what I wanted until I had my daughter and I was 28...Getting mine in 2 weeks. Doing something that is meaningful to you means that you will love the tattoo and more likely will not regret it later...because you're getting something that has meaning to you rather than a design that is "cool" at this time in your life.
Reply:You should really think of this yourself but i would say a rose. put it somewhere you could hid it if you were to go to a formal place.get Hanna while you wait. That will help you see what looks good and were.
Reply:here r my favorites: rose, dragon, the name of your lover, yuor sign, or even your signature. if you are still unsure look on at the tatoos of random people. there are so many tatooed people ot there youl find one you love. remeber once u get a tatto its stuck.
Reply:How about a skull flying out of a fiery lake from hell on your left thigh. Can't get anymore natural than that.
Reply:Don't get one. They are a major turn off.
Reply:well I got a tattoo recently that dealt with my heritage and if you're are into something like that for ex. I got a shamrock because I'm Irish
Reply:You should get it right in the small of your back (lowest part of your back in the middle) and you should get whatever you want.
Reply:Well you could get a rose with a heart around it wich would stand for love. you could also get a heart split into 4 sections that say love life live die. because that is pretty much how peoples lives are.
Reply:Maybe after a few years of thinking, you will be able to make a decision on your own.
Reply:I think it'd be cool to get a cross with vines growing on it, and maybe roses on the vines.

If you wanna get a tattoo in between your shoulder blades, do it. I don't think it's trashy.
Reply:YOU SHOULD GET A TATTOO THAT FITS YOUR PERSONALITY, DON'T GET A TATTOO THAT'S UGLY OR OFF BECAUSE WHEN YOU GET OLD, IT WILL LOOK UGLY, NOT TOO TEASE OR ANYTHING, JUST GIVING YOU FRIENDLY ADVICE, BUT ITS UP TO YOU ON WHAT KIND OF TATTOO TOO GET.
Reply:Firstly, let me say Im NOT anti-tattoo. Ive spent years on and off researching ways to get rid of the two I have; in that time Ive read THOUSANDS of discussions, stories of the regrets people feel about their tats, not just those that made rash decisions, but even those that thought long and hard about the design, the artist and the consequences.

I thought my designs were meaningful, deep, important to me too. Think about a favourite poster, design, artwork of yours, something you think is amazing. Now think of having that same image hanging on your bedroom wall everyday, year after year, forever. I know you're only young, but very few people have the same artwork, hanging on the same wall, of every flat or house they will ever live in. Try it...see how long it takes you to get sick of it. Find some flash, enlarge it, hang it on your bedroom wall until you're legal to get a tat (2 or 3 years??) and see if you still love it as much as you do now. In that time you might have found

dozens of designs that blow your mind, are more amazing than the last one. Get my point???

Get creative...display your personality on your clothes, your books, your hair your walls....COVER your bedroom walls and ceiling in flash and see if sometimes you need a change?

Find a tree of life design, create one yourself, then put it on your wall. There are only 2 things in life set in concrete: concrete....and tattoos!!!!
Reply:like a butterfly on your lower back are a roses
Reply:Not to come off sounding harsh, but if you have to ask, you shouldn't get one.
Reply:get a sun or a cross

Reply:Do something with meaning, get a vision, I have no "tats", want one a big baby though, plus I am older and I think God has made our skin a creative canvas but its differant for us individually some people choose to some dont, it's all about you, stay away from all this chinese crap, my friend was told her symbolism meant one thing and when a real asian person saw they explained it meant another these are permanent so think hard, write down some ideas, do you like hearts, and what do you think of when you think of a heart, purity, sadness, broken, whole, any creative tattoo artist can envision what you tell them and see the work first, like you know they usually take pictures of what they have done for other people, a clean place, clean sterile needles and by the way take a pain reliever, it helps,

PS NO TRAMP STAMPS IN THE MIDDLE OF YOUR BACK UNLESS YOU WANT TO WORK IN A STRIP CLUB, do something classy, not trashy
Reply:Don't get one. Tattoos can give you serious diseases, and take a butload of money to get taken off. Also, when you get older, the color fades, and they just look like major baggage.n lok at this

and keep a luck out! got to art galleries and jewlery stores eventually something will pop out at you that you will take your breath away and you will want to keep forever
Reply:Whatever you get put a lot of thought into it make sure that it's something that you can live with for the rest of your life, and as long as it's something that will still be as meaningful to you in the distant future. i like the Tree of life maybe with your parents, grandparents, and siblings Initials that would be cool don't put boyfriends or spouses even if you think it's forever it's not a good idea because boyfriends and spouses may come and go but family is forever
Reply:If you are into natural stuff, don't get a tatoo, they hurt are dangerous and almost impossible to get rid of...don't go with the crowd, stand out and just don't get one.....sorry, old mom....
Reply:There are many different tattoo design websites you can look up on the Internet. First browse around and see what strikes your fancy. You are going to live with this design for the rest of your life and it should be something you won't mind having on your body 10 years from now. I have seen all sorts of both beautifully done tattoos as well as some home jobs that are just the ugliest stuff you ever saw. They also use good long lasting inks now that don't fade. I have even seen glow in the dark ink that is awesome. Be careful when you have it done that the place is clean and reputable, you don't need to get some infection or disease. Ask to look at the portfolios of the tattoo artists work and maybe even ask someone whose tattoo you like where they got theirs. Also take care and follow the aftercare instructions to keep from getting an infection.

How do I design an experiment to find the number of H2O molecules in hydrated copper sulfate??

I know that the formula is CuSO4 5H2O ---%26gt; CuSO4 + 5H2O, but I need to design an experiment to prove it.

How do I design an experiment to find the number of H2O molecules in hydrated copper sulfate??
Take a known mass of copper(II) sulfate pentahydrate and weigh it. Then heat it until all the water evaporates and weigh it again.

Subtract the initial weight from the final weight and you get the weight of the evaporated water.

Then use stoichiometry to convert the mass of the water evaporated to moles of the water evaporated.

Figure out the moles of copper(II) sulfate from the weight of the anhydrous copper(II) sulfate and then use stoichiometry to see if the mass of the copper(II) sulfate and the mass of the evaporated water corresponds with that equation.

How can I design my own knitwear?

Hi I've been knitting for about a year now and I feel ready to design my own knitted clothing. Can you tell me of any good books, websites etc that will help me with getting started out. Thank you and merry Christmas!

How can I design my own knitwear?
There's lots of knitting design software out there. It's helpful if, like me, you're not good with math; otherwise, once you're familiar with how to assemble clothing, read patterns, and can calculate gauge, it's not too hard to do on your own. I'd find a basic pattern for whatever you're making and alter at will--a lot of good designs come out of just changing a stitch pattern, adding cables, or what have you. Really, though, it's just familiarity with the process--and the dreaded gauge!
Reply:use graph paper a stitch per square copy one a pattern you have this should then give you some dimensions good luck
Reply:Get a pen and some paper and just start doodling! Something will spring out at you eventually.

How do I learn how to design a website from scratch?

I would like to be able to design a website basically from scratch. Where do I begin? Can I become an expert with DreamWeaver or FrontPage, or is there more to it than just that? I am a beginner who is looking to learn everything about designing, hosting, and managing websites.

Any information to get me started on the right track is appreciated.

How do I learn how to design a website from scratch?
There are numerous tutorials on the Internet to choose from. Are you a visual learner? HTML is the universal language of the Internet. Also, CSS (cascading Style Sheets) are starting to take over as the number one way to format web pages. I'd go to www.w3schools.com and walk through their tutorials first. Dreamweaver is the best edting platform in the world right now. Don't use Front Page as it brings a lot of uneccessary baggage (code) to a site.
Reply:There is no quick bang for bucks or shortcuts in learning all these stuff. You need to get your hand dirty and learn it the hard way if that what it takes and you need to be patient. If you are a beginner, all you need to start off with is a passion to learn and an idea to visualize what you want to accomplish. coding and design is 2 separate discipline but combining skills at both can really get you far. begin with learning all html stuff then css, learn also more about graphics and how it is integrated into a layout design. it's a long step by step learning process but its fun also. get inspiration from other good sites.e.g. look for oswd templates and see how they were done. there's a lot of resources around you, it's given already so all you really need is time and the will to learn. there are books, online resources and the websites where you can find all the information you need.

Is anyone else slightly obsessed with the marketing and product design that Innocent Smoothies use?

Who does their design work for them? I simple love it. Which, I guess, shows how good the marketing is. They could be making smoothies out of Bambi, and I would still be first in line!

Is anyone else slightly obsessed with the marketing and product design that Innocent Smoothies use?
British Diabetic Association published a report in the latest of their information magazines stating that they are not as innocent as their name suggests. A lot of the fruit is fruit concentrate which is high in natural fruit sugars so is not therefore a good idea to have them if you are an uncontrolled diabetic.
Reply:i like them but not obsessed

I love the way they print what's inside on the carton and the fact that one glass is two portions of your 5 a day!

Where can i find a sample/example of an interior design contract?
http://www.afnafpo.com/Policy_Proc_Train...

Right here is a great one!!
Reply:Join ASID. They have sample contracts they provide to their members. There are many ways of charging for your services so you must decide that first. There are also so many more concerns considering liability, sub contractors, marketing, fees and late charges, credit checks, etc. I would suggest purchasing this book: It will walk you through everything you need to know! http://www.amazon.com/Professional-Pract...

There isn't enough time or room in this forum to cover everything. This book is very much so worth the money. You won't be disappointed. It has several sample contracts and a start to finish guide of everything you need to consider when starting your own interior design business.

Just a word on the interior designer title. I don't know your background, but if you are not educated and certified, in most states you cannot use the interior designer title. Check your state laws.

What tools do I need to know to start a landscape and gardening design business?

Years ago I worked in a amateur way in gardening maintenance. I realice that I liked it a lot but I don't have the specific knoledge and experience to start a landscape and gardening design business. I have the feeling that I have the creativity for doing this but of course this is not all. Could someone help me telling me the kind of tools that I would require to start this gradually? Maybe I would requiere to know some landscape design software, etc. In short, what kind of tools would be necesary to have and learn. Maybe the thing would be more complex like doing an Business plan? I'll thank any advice. Chris

What tools do I need to know to start a landscape and gardening design business?

Gardener: A truck or trailer to carry your equipment and debris (although some enterprising people have even started without this). A lawn mower, rake, broom, and other small hand tools. Buy your equipment used if necessary, but shop carefully.

Landscaper: Basically you need hand tools and a truck or trailer. To start with most other tools you can rent.

Interiorscaper: A car or truck is necessary, watering cans, and assorted small hand tools.

%26gt;From the basic requirements to start it would seem that interiorscaping requires the smallest capital outlay. This is correct, but starting an interiorscape business is more difficult in other ways. It requires a better understanding of the trade. Indoor plants are much more difficult to maintain. Also, acquiring accounts is not as easy as in outdoor work. Most, if not all, interiorscape accounts will be commercial, as opposed to the residential work of gardeners.

For gardeners and landscapers a truck or trailer is a must, but as I mentioned earlier it is possible to start without one for some work. If you are doing maintenance you may be able to get accounts that will allow you to use their equipment and not require you to haul away debris. You will be expected to work very inexpensively, though. If you can get a truck do so.

For both gardeners and landscapers another source of income is from clean-ups. This is simply a one-time job of cleaning up an overgrown landscape. These jobs are hard work, but can be quite profitable.

In every business you have to contend with the government. Service businesses are no different. Before you get started investigate what is required in your area. Most likely you will need a business license from your city. The state may require a contractor's license or certification for landscape contractors. Most likely your state will require a pest control license if you intend to apply pesticides. Check out all the city, state, and federal rules before you start.

How would you design a primer for sequencing a DNA fragment of Unknown sequence?

If you are given a tissue sample and asking you to sequence DNA.. you don't have any idea about the sequence..And sanger's method is the simplest method for sequencing DNA.. but this method requires a Primer. since you don't have any idea about the given DNA , how would you design primer for it?

How would you design a primer for sequencing a DNA fragment of Unknown sequence?
I like that you post this to Yahoo answers. Makes me laugh.
Reply:You digest the DNA with restriction enzymes, insert the fragments into a plasmid or a phage reacted with the same restriction enzyme(these are called vectors), and transform a bacteria with the vector. This creates a library. You know where the fragments are inserted because the the vector only has one restriction site for the enzyme you choose. The sequence of the the vector is already known, so you can prime on the vector DNA upstream from the restriction site.
Reply:If you have the money and resources, you shotgun sequence it. Use random primers.

Afterward use some assembly software to figure out a tentative sequence for you; then go back and sequence the rest in a less random manner.

If you're specifically trying to sequence a gene, that's easier. You might not know what the sequence is, but you can guess based on homologous sequences from the same organism and other related species.
Reply:Is this from a tissue sample: in other words, from all the genomic DNA? Or is it from a pre-isolated fragment (generated by restriction fragment digest).

In the first case, I would isolate the mRNA and perform rtPCR to get a cDNA library (you can use a poly-T probe to target the poly-A tail of mRNA, IIRC).

In the second case, if you know the restriction enzyme used to digest the DNA, then you know the sequence where that enzyme cuts, and you can design a primer to target that.

Good luck.

Help with graphic design project- personal identity within team?

I have a project for my graphic design degree where we are put in teams of 6 and have to work together to produce an A2 board for each person, depicting their identity/personality. Everyone must work as a group and produce equally high quality work for everyone to pass. This has it's problems. Can anyone suggest ways to help encourage everyone to work together and turn up to all arranged meetings, and also ideas as to how to go about making a team identity and the A2 boards, a little out of the ordinary?

Also, how would one go about keeping a creative log?

Any ideas and tips welcome. I'm not cheating or out of ideas, I have some already. Just looking outside to other people's opinions and ideas! Many thanks in advance.

Help with graphic design project- personal identity within team?
The first thing you can do is tell them that you aren't going to pull the weight for all of you. Demand their participation. If they still don't pitch in, you're going to have to speak with your teacher by letting her know that some within the group are not participating. I know no one wants to be a snitch but no one should have to do group work by themselves. This is your grade. If you're forced to, you have to put yourself first.

As far as the project goes.....the first thing that comes to my mind is, maybe you can find something that you all have in common like a band, singer, movie, TV show or even a favorite artist and go from there.

Not knowing the full aspect of your project, I could be way off but these are things I think of when I have projects like this. Make it something meaningful throughout the whole group.

Does anyone know how i can get the same interior design as the one on the tv show 'Girlfriends'?

I love the interior design on girlfriends and I'd like to copy the look. My searches so far only show pictures (very nice that they are) of the stars. I just want a photo of the set - in particular Joan's apartment so i can copy the look. Thanks!

Where is the best place to study photography and interier design in NYC?

Hello!

My older sister (who is currently 19.5 years old) would like to move to NYC to her other sibling (who is at that perioud is living in brooklyn). Since she's interested in art, she'd like to study the subjects of photography or/and interier design.

So, what collages can you advertise? Of course she's interested in well known collages that gives a degree/ diploma that leads to a [successfull] carrer job at that specific subject. Also, please tell what are accepting conditions and what does it require for her to move [from Israel] to NYC? A link to the web address of the collage will be also well appritated as well.

Where is the best place to study photography and interier design in NYC?
Pratt Institute of Fine Arts is world renowned. It is like the Yale of art schools. Of course it is tough to get into. In New York I am sure there are many great Art Schools. What she should do is do her research get into the best school she can THEN move to New York. It will make life much easier for her.

How to pre-design a Set for a Stage Play?

I wanted to know whether there is a technique or a Specific Software with the help of which I can Pre-Design a Set for a Stage Play. This would actually help me playing around with different things and props, thus concluding to the best setting.

If there is one, kindly do mention the name of the Software. It would be great if you can help me out with this question.

Thanks for your time to my query.

Take Care.

Theo Allan.

How to pre-design a Set for a Stage Play?
I don't know of any actual computer software that would aid you in this task. However, I have had some experience in helping to build stage sets and props and so fourth. Here's an idea, just a suggestion. Call your local college or university or even a local high school and even the local theater group and ask them who is in charge of their theater productions. Go and speak with the person and tell them what you need. With their experience and expertise they probably could steer you in the right direction better than most anyone else. At least thats what I would do if I were you. All I kn ow is a lot of people simply look at stage designs from photos of movies or past plays and they built it. I've never seen any software out there that would aid in this before, but, thats theater for you, secrets of the trade are well protected.

Just trying to be helpful.
Reply:Most professional designers use AutoCAD or VectorWorks Spotlight but they both take time to learn and are very expensive.

Punch Architectural series offers much easier tools that allow you to quickly build walls and add furniture that result in relatively good 3D designs that you can virtually walk thru and see from all audience viewpoints. You don't have the full flexibility of the more advanced tools but it is much easier and cheaper.

I think you can download a free version of Punch and try it out.

All the scenery, furniture and props the audience sees at a production of a play make up the set design. The set designer's job is to design these physical surroundings in which the action will take place. The overall look of the set also gives the audience information about the director's concept of the production.

The set should:

suggest the style and tone of the whole production, create mood and atmosphere, give clues as to the specific time and place of the action and offer creative possibilities for the movement and grouping of the actors.

The set may also need to be designed so the backstage areas used by the actors and stage crew are kept out of sight from the audience. This will depend on the effect the director wants to create with the staging and on the type of stage the production uses.

All the things appearing on the stage other than the scenery are called stage properties, or props. Set props like furniture, draperies and decorations are the types of things that complete the set and they need to be part of the set design.

The set designer will normally read the script many times, both to get a feel for the flavor and spirit of the script and to list its specific requirements for scenery, furnishings and props. The time of day, location, season, historical period and any set changes called for in the script are noted. The set designer's focus here is on figuring out everything that may be needed based on the dialogue in the script. Stage directions tend to be ignored at this point in the process.

Collaboration

The set designer will meet with the director and the design team (set, costume, lighting and sound designers), to discuss the details of the set and the director's interpretation of the play. The set, costume and lighting designers also meet and work together to ensure the creation of a unified look and feel for the production. A lively exchange of initial ideas and first impressions helps clarify the steps that each person needs to take in this intensely collaborative process.

Designer's tools

Set designers use several tools to communicate their ideas to the director and the other designers. These include:

a rough sketch of the set in the preliminary phase, floor plans drawn to scale showing from above the general layout of each set and the placement of the furniture and large props, front elevations giving a view of the elements of the set from the front and showing details like windows or platforms, miniature three-dimensional models showing how each set will look when finished.

These visual aids help to ensure that all the theatre artists involved in the production understand each other.

Once the show opens, the designer's work is essentially complete. Now it's normally the job of the stage manager and backstage crew to make sure that every aspect of the production runs just as the designer intended, time after time, until the production closes.

How do I get an interior design license in Utah?

I have a degree but not in Interior Design but have been doing my own design and for friends for years. I want to have the license so I can go in and make purchases on behalf of clients. How do I get an official license?

How do I get an interior design license in Utah?
License for what. You don't need a license, you need a tax id number and insurance.

You do NOT need a degree in a college discipline to start and operate a business. If your talent for design is good enough and you work hard and smart, you can run your own successful business. You need classes in Small Business Management, not design classes. Especially, because you have been doing your own design for years. Trust yourself. Apply for a Tax ID# and go into business. Advertise your craft (show some pictures of your work), create a web site, learn to sell yourself. GL DESIGNER!!!

What type of jobs can i get with a fahion design degree?

I want to become a model, and i need some design experience what should i do?

What type of jobs can i get with a fahion design degree?
Models definitely don't need a degree they need clients and experience, they need an agent and a personal trainer. Fashion design is really for people interested in merchandisng, buying and textile and fashion design. The key to runway modeling is to get running with it at age 17, going on castings, practicing posing etc. Models usually don't go past age 26. Best of luck

Where do I get the codes of the layouts I create so they can be inserted into the myspace page, which changes the layout on someones page?

Are there copy right issues when using artwork for cartoons, artists, etc...?

How do I design layouts for myspace and make it easy to save layouts on my website for anyone to use?
All those programs you have will come in handy to design you actual website. Photoshop is good to help you edit your backgrounds which you use for your layouts. However, the actual layout must be written in code. Which means you will need to learn html coding. It is best to learn the code yourself, it is easy! instead of trying to design in a program. I save my codes in microsoft word to put on my website, but other people use everything from notepad to advanced programming software, it will give you the same result.

Finally there are copyright issued with cartoons and such, however, chances are unless you start pulling in millions of dollars no one will do anything. I do not recommend using any copy writed materials. There are many sites on the internet that sell pictures, cartoons, etc that you can buy at a low price, this is the best way to go.

Check out:

I have a picture of the layout on my site, then I have the code in a scroll box underneath. The coding is what you will have to learn.

How to design a fresnel lens and can any one gimme a practical design example?

The fresnel lens, to be designed is to use in automobile lighting applications and for PDA displays. I need some nice books/websites/references for the design process. An example for calculating the facet angle, valley and peak values, relief angles and values would be nice.

How to design a fresnel lens and can any one gimme a practical design example?
A Fresnel lens basically approximates the curvature of a spherical lens in small coaxial segments; the result being the same as if you cut a plano-convex or plano-concave lens into such segments and then cut off a hollow cylinder of material from each segment such that what remains is, roughly, the curved top, a newly-cut flat bottom, and one vertical side (i.e., a near-triangular cross section). Obviously some material needs to be left to hold all these segments together, so there will be a small fourth side, i.e. a constant added thickness. The 'curved' top may actually be flattened for easier manufacture. Some old lighthouses use concentric circular 3-sided prisms, a real approximation. I'd guess that segment size, valley and peak values depend on the material's mechanical properties more than optics.

What legal protection can you use to protect a product design?

I'm specifically referring to an electric guitar body design. Can that be protected by trademark, copyright, or patent? What's the difference between the three?

What legal protection can you use to protect a product design?
You need a patent.

A copyright is for a written work.

A trademark is for an advertising slogan.

---Yes, you want a "design patent".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Design_pate...

Also, in order for something to be "patenable", it must:

be of patentable subject matter, ie a kind of subject-matter that is eligible for patent protection,

be novel (i.e. at least some aspect of it must be new),

be non-obvious (in United States patent law) or involve an inventive step (in European patent law); and

be useful (in U.S. patent law) or be susceptible of industrial application (in European patent law).

So as long as your design does not already have a patent, and it is not an obvious design (say, like a lightning bolt), you should be O.K.

Where can i find a Graphic Design Internship in Los Angeles for a High School student?

I've looked everywhere i could think of. I basically want a Graphic Design internship, or Web Design Internship in Los Angeles for a high school student. The only time i can do this though is over the summer.

Where can i find a Graphic Design Internship in Los Angeles for a High School student?
goto college or art school, then you'll know what graphic design really is.
Reply:One way is to somehow visit a college job placement office for students looking for summer jobs and internships, especially at an art school.

Also the job listings such as craigslist and creativehotlist will sometimes indicate that the position is specifically an internship.

Visit home pages of studios, agencies, publications, and other businesses and look for graphic design internships being offered.

Or you can compose a good cover letter and send them your resume and portoflio.

If you don't know who is offering internships, you need to find out what's out there producing good stuff that you admire. One place to start is the graphic design magazines where they list the names of studios and agencies alongside their work.

Oh, and you need to start looking now. The serious college student would have already had a summer internship lined up in December.

How do I give a presentation for a new home design?

I have to write a paper in English and basically make a presentation for a panel of judges. I picked that I will create a new home design for a sub division for my "job" and I need to know how to go about creating this?

How do I give a presentation for a new home design?
I would first draw a floor plan for your new home design...Be sure to include some neat features that you would want to include in your home.....then, in your paper, describe the floor plan with all of these neat features. Pretend you are talking to a potential buyer and are trying to sell them this house. The more that you can describe about these neat features, the better your paper will be!!!!

ICOW the electrical design, How do they compute for the grounding wire of one circuit?

In design, ground wire is important and it vary depending of the size of hot wire.how to find a size of ground wire having a 22 sq.mm hot wire.

thank you in advance.

ICOW the electrical design, How do they compute for the grounding wire of one circuit?
Sizing of ground wires is not an exact science. Ampacity is not the issue, but (a) voltage drop to avoid having a dangerous potential on equipmentand when a ground fault occurs and (b) mechanical strenght to avoid damage to the wire.

Usually, mechanical considerations make it so strong that the voltage drop is nil.

I have to designing an after-school program according to some of social theories that I am studying in sociology class. It has to be for elementary school children. I have to explain how I would design such a program in light of the socialization theories: psychoanalytic, object relations, social learning, or symbolic interaction. Need information about the use of equilateral triangles in kitchen design?

I would like some references/information on the use of equilateral triangles in kitchen design. I think the idea is to have a more efficient workspace.

Thanks in advance.

Need information about the use of equilateral triangles in kitchen design?
arch 101

An efficient work triangle in the kitchen doesn't have to be equilateral but it does help to keep it reasonably close. Measure the distance between the 3 major work areas, sink, cook top, and refrigerator. Total the distance between the three. The optimum distance should be between 12-21 feet. In an equilateral triangle that's 4 to 7 feet per side. There are other things to consider such as how many people will be cooking at the same time and is there enough space to accommodate all persons comfortably.

Can anyone help me with ideas for a senior design project in Electrical Engineering?

I need to come up with a design project to do, but I am having a hard time because I can't come up with something that isn't too demanding for one semester of time. I want to find something that also is interesting to do. Do you have any ideas? I'm also trying to avoid an overabundant amount of programming, as we are all hardware engineers.

Can anyone help me with ideas for a senior design project in Electrical Engineering?
Use two half wave dipole antennas at right angles to create a circular polarized antenna. Then try and match it to a 50 ohm cable. Hint: feeds might need to be a little off center to match phase and impedance.

bonus marks if your design works for L1, L2 and L5 GPS frequencies, and you build one!

Might be easier to use VHF or UHF and discrete components to pull in weather satellite faxes.

Is it possible to combine a career in Graphic Design and Editing/Proofreading ?

I would like to combine a career in both Graphic Design and Editing/Proofreading on a freelance basis. Any advice on this? Is it possible to combine? Thoughts?

Is it possible to combine a career in Graphic Design and Editing/Proofreading ?
My experience is wholely within magazine publishing, so only applies to that sector.

In magazines, a graphic designer starts out as an art editor, while a proofreader is known as a sub-editor. These are two very distinct positions, and it would be very rare to find a full-time job that offered a chance to do both.

On a freelance basis, you could easily work as both a freelance art editor and a freelance sub. In fact, doing so would mean more offers of work and, therefore, more money. As in any freelancing, the most important thing is contacts. If you've ever had full-time experience within publishing, use your existing contacts to extend your network. If you have no experience, you'll find it very difficult to get freelance work. Freelancers are generally expected to be more experienced that full-time employees -- considering they are expected to jump in and fulfil a role at a workplace at which they have never worked, they need to be good at their job.

Some magazines will need subs to do design -- in my first subbing job, I did quite a bit of dabbling in Photoshop and Illustrator. But you would need to pick the right mag, and you would need to do it full-time.

I think that within the advertising or marketing sectors, you'd find a lot more crossovers between the two disciplines. Aim for a smaller firm, too, as there will be more opportunities to juggle a variety of roles.

Hope this helps :-)
Reply:Sure, all you have to do is start your own AD firm so you can create that positon.
Reply:Absolutely! Any type of catalog, magazine or book layout/composition project can incorporate these two things. In fact, many employers will look for the added benefit of a editor and proofreader when hiring for graphic design. You get the benefit of a designer who can also do the creative part of the job- and make sure it's correct!
Reply:I should think so! How wonderful that you have both verbal and visual talent. You will be in demand at any ad agency, public relations firm, publishing house or political campaign...I should imagine. Go for it!

Any advice for switching careers from IT to Interior Design?

I love interior design, and would like to switch to that from computers. Any suggestions on what I should do aside from the typical "take classes" approach. I have an "eye" for color, and furnishing arrangements. Friends (I've had forever) always complement me on my apartment layout and my personal tastes. Thanks!

Any advice for switching careers from IT to Interior Design?
I'm an interior designer myself and I love my job so I hope that I can help. First and foremost, you must understand that there is a difference between an interior decorator and an interior designer. An interior DECORATOR is someone that decorates homes for others but doesn't have a degree in interior design. They only deal with the wall colors and furniture arrangements in a space. Many people choose to do this instead of going to school and getting a degree in interior design. If you want to be an interior DESIGNER, then you MUST, of course, go to school and take classes at a FIDER-accredited school and become licensed. Each state has its own regulations regarding the level of certification needed to work there, so choose your school wisely. Please know that it takes a lot more than having an eye for color and furniture arrangements to be an interior designer. Interior design is also very scientific and mathematical. You will have to learn basics like drawing and drafting, and then specifics like business ethics and commercial design. Many people think that interior design only deals with the finishes and surfaces within a space (interior decorating), but it also involves shaping a space. Interior designers develop the blueprints of a room, choosing, for example, where to put walls, the shape and height of a ceiling, and where stairs will go. As far as interacting with others, you can't be a person who doesn't like to be told what to do. On occasion you will have clients who want it their way or they'll send you away. Then there are clients who continuously change their mind, so you have to have patience as well. I started by doing work for my family and friends because I knew that if they didn't like it they would most definitely tell me. I wouldn't jump the gun and do anything for companies or businesses just yet if I were you, start slow. You can't afford any bad advertising when starting out, and businesses are very serious about the designs of their spaces. See if any of your family or friends will let you do a room or two. They will usually be truthful and tell you whether they really like it or don't like it, plus they will spread the word if you do really good. Doing work for friends and family is also a good way to build a portfolio. Before I even started design school I had a portfolio full of work that I did for friends and family and I sent a few photos in with my application. Again you can just be an interior decorator and just choose paint colors, fabrics, and arrange furniture, or you can go for the goal and get a degree interior design. Just make sure that you choose your school wisely; it must be accredited so that you can get licensed.
Reply:if you r confident you can to change to interior design. It is challenger in all kind of job. Think if u can take up the Challenger and stress in job. You can take a course for interior design and find more information to this job. Must good in colours design n Furniture of every room, kitchen, living room and toilets. Good luck.
Reply:Wow, this is interesting. I'm interested in making a transition into home IT, such as networking, whole house audio, home security and automation.

Perhaps that is how you make a transition. With increased interest in home networks, whole house audio, etc, maybe you you can begin there and also supplement that work with interior design. You network someones computers and make the suggestion for a marginal fee, you can help with interior design.

Another suggestion, try home builders. With the housing crunch, many builders are doing whatever it takes, including adding more interior design features like furniture, wallpaper, decor, to move their product. Also realtors. I'm sure they have clients that want to add some appeal to their homes.

The tough part is starting out. People are going to want to see a portfolio. But you can't develop a portfolio without clientele. So you may need to stay with IT for awhile, do some free design for friends and family, and discounted work for others nights and weekends, to build a portfolio.

Another thing is joining a professional organization.

http://www.asid.org/

It adds creditability and an opportunity to network.

I hope it works out. Good luck.
Reply:Interior design is a tough career because there's not a lot out there, just like architecture. It's something you really have to have a passion for and be willing to work for, and of course enjoy.

What do you need to design to form a computerized database?

I now have to design a database, and apart from the tables, what do I need to prepare and design, so I can implement it more efficiently and effectively?

What do you need to design to form a computerized database?
You need to normalize the database to insure proper relations between tables and eliminate redundant data. Normalization should be part of your table design, as it can effect table layout, keys, and how many tables you have. I always normalize to the Boyce-Codd normal form, which is enough for all but very complex and process-intensive databases.
Reply:william k got it right. I've been designing databases for years and the one thing that makes a database successful is the GUI (Graphic User Interface). There's an old saying in the computer game - "Garbage in, Garbage out!" As a DB designer, you must ensure that the operator enters data in a highly structured way. The better the structure, the better the results. Your programming code should check for, and report on every error: Mr, Mister, Street, St, Road Rd. Make the GUI user friendly, then make it even more user friendly. Get different friends to enter data and see where they differ. redesign the GUI to stop any differences happening and then think about making it even more user friendly. Any database data entry screen must be simple to use by anyone. The database program itself will produce good results provided the imput is accurate to start with. If you think I've used the phrase "user friendly" too much, you're wrong. How many times have you filled out a form and asked yourself "I wonder what I'm supposed to enter in this box?"
Reply:Well, if you're in a fairly large environment, running it of an SQL server is pretty popular. It's possible to just share it directly from a shared folder in XP, though. What program are you using? OOo base? Microsoft Access?
Reply:Hi,

you have a lot of work ahead of you, the hard part of any design is the GUI "graphic user Interface" how the user inputs the data and see's the results. please read MS Access "Inside out" and this will really help you. hope this all helps you.

What is the best way to start learning web design ?

We have had some web design classes at school, but they were not enough to be able to make a website.

What is the best way to start learning web design ?
If you are really serious, visit any number of internet portals providing base level HTML coding training for free (for example http://www.echoecho.com/). If you've got that down, the next step is start looking at HTML code for sites / pages that you like or find interesting. HTML is still the foundation of the Web, so having a solid understanign of most of the codes and elements is essential.

Also, maker sure that you have access to some form of Bitmpap graphic editing software, such as GIMP or Adobe Photoshop. There are MANY available for free. Website are not all text, and graphics and interaction form important components.

Make sure that you understand the fundamentals of interaction and navigation, as these are fundamental to building an effective well-designed website. Once again, look at sites that you find easy using, and try and see what they did right, and how.

Like the other answers say, the best way is stick it out, get your hands dirty, and try and redo what others have done.
Reply:Unless your doing a flash site or someone asks for it, NEVER EVER add a background MIDI file to your sites. It creates an unproffessional image. How good of a chance do I have of getting a Graphic Design Job in Okinawa?

How good of a chance do I have of getting a Graphic Design Job in Okinawa?
Well, obviously it would be helpful if you know the language, but I'm sure you have that covered.

Okinawa is an older part of Japan. Even if its modernization it's still a bit on the rural side, so finding more modern work such as graphic design can be a bit rough. I'm not saying it would impossible, but it would be more difficult.

Graphic design work is more plentiful in your larger prefectures like Tokyo and Shinjuku. If you can manage to relocate yourself to those areas you may have better luck with graphic design work, or at least have more options at your disposal.

In either case, I wish you luck. It's always nice to have another talented designer in the business. :)

I took a graphic design class in collage and enjoyed it. Any suggestions? Can I work, be gamefully employed without a degree in graphic design?

Graphic design interest me as I'm very good in photoshop, do I need a degree in order to work in this field?
You might not need a degree but some company do prefer it. When I started 7 years ago, my AA degree seem to be good enough for most company, but for the last couple of years, more and more job openings require a BA. Of course if you have the equal amount of years in the field, they would consider that instead of the degree. If you're new to the field, you will need to take more courses or hand-on training. Photoshop is the NOT the only program we use, you will need to know Illustrator, InDesign, QuarkXpress, etc. And if you want to get into web design, there's Dreamweaver, Flash, html, etc... But most important of all, you will need to understand the basic principal of design plus have the talent of understanding good and bad design work. A print shop job might help you understand the printing and pre-press processes but they don't usually pay good. Or you can try interning for an ad agency to build up your portfolio. Entry level normally don't make a lot and the work might not be fun and creative. Well, 7+ years and I'm still not make a lot of money :) ... but good luck anyway.
Reply:I majored in Graphic Design but didn't finish because I had got a scholarship that paid for up to 2yrs right after I graduated from high school. After my 2yrs was up, I just work alot of jobs to try save up money to go back and finish up and get the degree. Along the way I got sidetracked and now 10 yrs later I'm married with two little babies....so no I never did get finished and get the degree but when ever there is a conversation and I'm asked about how far did I go in school, it's amazing how many times I've run into someone looking to hire me because I told them about Graphic Design, I do tell them, 'but I didn't finish and get the degree', and it doesn't matter to them, they still would like to hire me. My life has changed so much now, my priorities are different, my two baby girls are my whole world so I've turned down all the offers because I want to stay home and take care of them.

So the answer is, no, you don't need the degree, just a little taste of experience and then when the opportunity arises(like meeting someone who is hiring, or job interviews for graphic design material, etc) it's all up to you in what you choose(go for it or not).
Reply:Often industry experience is as good as, or better than, a classroom qualification.

Why don't you approach some design firms and offer your services either freelance or ask for an unpaid work experience placement?

Where are you based? I know my partner is always looking for freelance designers when they have big projects on.

(BTW he has been a designer for many years and he dropped out of his fine arts degree in the second year because he felt it wasn't giving him enough practical learning)

While you're looking for contacts, start building up a portfolio of your best work. Its always handy to have something you can send off to show off your talents.

That said, there's nothing wrong with more education, just make sure that it is preparing you for the working world, and that you wouldn't save more time and money by just jumping in.
Reply:You need talent, kowledge and a good portfolio (take jobs on for free if you need to build up your portfolio). Of course, connections don't hurt either!
Reply:I don't think that degree is Important role for dream job or for making money. You should ve creativity, knowledge %26amp; utilizing/ self understanding skills. that ll make you perfect man..

I really love "New England Home". You can view it in digital form online. I live in Florida now, but enjoy picking up the magazine and relaxing, imagining I'm living in New England again..

What's a good name for my freelance web design/development company?

I want to set up a website for my freelance company, I do web design, development and support. I want something cool, but also something that tells people I am professional. Thanks.

What's a good name for my freelance web design/development company?
I'd try this different approach. Invite over about ten of your best friends for a wine tasting party at your house early in the evening and make sure you have a designated driver or two. After everyone has had a glass or two, and start to loosen up tell them you are looking for a name for your new web design development company.

You'd be surprised at how creative they become. The more they loosen up the more chance there is of something very good coming out of it.

Get several names you like because the challenge will be to find a name that is also available as a web site name. The moment you settle on something, do a search at http://www.godaddy.com to see if the name is available. If you are very lucky and it is, available, buy it immediately. The price is usually less than $10 and you’ll own it for at least a year.

Good Luck

What can I do with a major in Graphic Design and Religion?
Interpreting the bible into a graphic novel......
Reply:you could do advertising, counseling, or draw pictures for your local church.
Reply:u could create graphics for christian bands or do a ministry of ur own w/ ur designs
Reply:I would say major in religion and minor in graphic design. You can work for a church orginazation, run bible study groups or be a teacher of theology. With graphic design you can do alot.
Reply:You could do covers for books, Christian books, big market for this and much needed especially subsidy.
Reply:well seeing that graphic design involves a lot of math, just about anywhere would take you....but most adds u see are animated, they pay well..a lot of things do well..video games...not sure how religion and grapgocs can roll togheter
Reply:idk those 2 r pretty distant
Reply:you can work for a religious printing house, or some type of ministry making their brochures, bible studies, etc.

Lots of my friends do this. They get paid pretty well too.

Where can I buy a mannequin used for clothing design?

I"m looking for stores that sell mannequins for clothing design. I need a new one.

Where can I buy a mannequin used for clothing design?
ebay has really good ones, even adjustable mannequins so you can put your exact measurements in, but those adjustable mannequins are expensive. you dont always need a credit card for ebay too, if it is just a person selling the item you usually can just send a check or even cash in a card-like object and they wont mind.

Okay: Dallas:

these stores sell mannequins, though they are not adjustable

check in your yellow pages for clothing manufacturer supply stores or even for antique shops. they might have some. if you know of any tailoring shops in your area, such as Macy's and Sears almost always do tailoring, you can go to the tailoring department and ask them where they get their mannequins from, and order from the same supplier. hope that helps some!
Reply:If you are talking about a dress form, the adjustable torso on a stand, I would check out one of the many Joann's here in Dallas. There is a great one on the corner of Preston Rd and Forrest Ln in the Preston Forrest shopping center on the north side of the Park Cities. If they don't carry them at their stores they do carry them on-line.

Reply:wher'd you get the 1st one?
Reply:the only place i can think of is a large department store.. foxi

Open up the template in PS and then make new layers to add your design. If you created your design in a different software, place/paste the file in PS on top of the template layer.

What is the average salary for an administrative assistant in an interior design company?

I work at an interior design company, and I was wondering what the average salary is for an entry-level administrative assistant in an interior design company.

Im under a two-week trial and at the end of the two weeks I will have to discuss salary, how should I approach it? are there any guidelines? what is the professional way to approach the subject?

What is the average salary for an administrative assistant in an interior design company?
check out salary.com for your answer.
Reply:A company based in NYC, in all likely hood, is well managed, established, and has excellent personnel establishing an abundance of business. The need for an administrative assistance to take responsibility, do what is asked within the job, and complete assignments in a timely manner are most important.

The two week period is used to see if you and company are a good "fit". Your working knowledge and desire to learn are important as well. During this period inquire at least once a week if expectations are being met and what you can do to improve and help the company. The answers will give you some idea of where you might "stand". Take good notes and right down each assignment you receive with instructions expressed.

Salaries in NYC differ as in different areas of the country. The best way is call other similar companies in NYC and ask. Just ask to speak to an administrative assistant that is employed there. If the receptionist is hesitant to connect you tell her you are looking into a similar position and just want to inquire about the job.

Good Luck, stay Positive!

What should i major in if i want to design houses and buildings?

I want to go to school for architecture but i dont know what courses i should take. i really want to be able to design houses, building, even furniture.

What should i major in if i want to design houses and buildings?
Civil Engineering, minor in physics,

Architect,

or that software program. Can't remember it.
Reply:It depends. I think you mean architecture. Architecture would allow you to design buildings and houses from a technical and artistic perspective.

Civil Engineering would involve you in that design from a tech perspective.

Interior Design would allow you to work on interiors from an artistic perspective.

The software program that the other poster mentioned is AutoCAD. You'd learn that as part of the above programs, or you can simply go to school for an associates in drafting, and work as an architectural drafter. But you wouldn't really be doin the actual design if you did that - you'd just be doing the renderings. So I don't think that's what you're askign about.

Furniture design is usually a separate field. That can often be found as that major, specifically, usually as part of an art department. You can also find it under product design, although that's sometimes art, sometimes engineering. You can also specialise in wood, or metal, etc. But a lot of people who study architecture or interior design also design furniture, on the side. You can major in, say, interior design, and also take some furniture design classes - perhaps even minor in it, if it's offered.
Reply:Your best bet is to make an appointment with your school advisor so, they can give you more information. The questions you should ask yourself is if you want to design buildings or go into interior design? They are two very different things. Sit in on these two classes at your school to get a better picture of what your getting into before you enter the classroom.

Good Luck!!

Reply:If you insist on having a PC get a higher end Dell Xps. Other than that MAC is the way to go, always has been and always will be. you can get a sweet mac for under $1,500. but a $1,000 will do just fine for graphic design.
Reply:For graphics design, Mac is the way to go. Now I'm not a Mac user, but I have used them in the past, and they seem to be the best thing going for graphics.
Reply:I hear macbooks are good for that.
Reply:You will first need to find out what graphic design software you will be running, then find the most affordable laptop that meets the suggested hardware requirements for the software.
Reply:I would go with a hp.. for graphic design there are two components you need to have which is fairly highend..

- The video card

- The memory

- The cpu

Reply:You won't beat a Mac for graphic design, the Mac was designed for that, it will cost a bit more but well worth it for what your going to be using it for, hope that helps and good luck.
Reply:What is your price range? Laptop is always more expensive than a desktop. Desktop runs faster than a laptop and also more powerful. Once you figure out what you are able to afford, you can choose iMac, Dell, HP, Fujisu, etc.

Your basic requirement should consist of: 2gb RAM, 160gb+ HD, DVD burner, and 256mb dedicated Video.

A Toshiba brand at about $750 (on sales at Office Depot Toshiba Satellite® P205D-S8802 17" Widescreen Notebook Computer With AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TL-60) will probably be okay, if you are tight with money.

You will also need design software along with it.
