How do I cut my grass to leave behind a checker-board design?
It just takes double cutting... cut across one way, then cut back perpendicular to those cuts.

you can roll that way, too, but it's not great for St. Augustine.
Reply:You need to have a roller towed behind your lawn tractor. Go in one direction with roller down, go in opposite direction with roller up. If you have a walk-behind then person 1's option is more apt.
Reply:Here is what you want to do...you first go diagonal in one direction, leaving about 3 inch gaps in between the rows. Then go diagonal the other direction, and do not leave any gaps. you want to go slow, and put your blade on a very low setting.
Reply:Your lawnmower should have different settings on it. Cut lengthwise one way on your lawn with a lower setting. Then go across wise on a higher setting. This will give you the desired look of the checker board. Since you already have thick grass this should work very well. Good Luck!!!
Reply:I started to explain to you but its complicated. Where do you live I'll show you. LOL Try looking up landscaping (Grass) on the net. A map would be easier and I can't draw a picture. Corner to corner mowing than the same in the opposit direction. Try a patch first and you'll see what I am saying. Don't mow strip next to each other, also start in center and work your way out. Then do it again in opposit direction.
