Can anyone give me any advice about preparing a portfolio to apply a Fashion Design course at a university?

What types of drawings should I include?

Does it differ from applying for a Foundation year?

And if you are a into Fashion design, any other tips concerning the course, universities or the job will be appreciated :)

Can anyone give me any advice about preparing a portfolio to apply a Fashion Design course at a university?
No it doesn't differ that much from a Foundation year except that the portfolio should show that you have done/are interested in Fashion. Here's how to do it.

Put all your general work in a pile and then separate it into categories. Life drawing one pile, style sheets another, photos another, finished work in another etc.etc.. Then pick two or three of the best from each pile. Don't do quantity, do quality.

That will do for your general portfolio. then pick two to four projects and assemble all the work including sketchbooks that went into the project. Look at the pile, count how much, at a minute a sheet it would take half an hour to get through 30 sheets so try to cut it down.

Make sure that everything is presented cleanly but don't take half a ton of mounting card. Try to show the briefs to each project and the written feedback. Include some written work and always, always your sketchbooks.

They will want evidence that you can write, draw and organise yourself, they won't want to take on people who need basic English or only do text talk. They love sketchbooks, it shows the persons thinking. Don't decorate your portfolio, keep the layout neat simple and clean. Make it easy to get through. Assume that you won't be allowed to take them through the portfolio and you won't go far wrong. No way do they want to be talked through it. That takes ages. If your granny can understand by the order its presented and the labelling what it is shes looking at then the tutors will also.

They are interested in where you get your ideas from, how organised you are, that your skills are up to working at Uni, and that your work is interesting. By cutting down the volume of work the quality will go up. By presenting well your confidence will go up. when you've completed get a couple of tutors to look.

A word of warning - no way should you include old work from School, it's not relevant. Even if your A level took ages, it's the freer Foundation stuff they will want. hope that helps.

How can I make a simple design on brige?

I have a term paper to write on a simple design of a brige. All the stages involve in the design process should be included in the design as well as the necessary calculations, the preacuations and others relevants informations . Thanks

How can I make a simple design on brige?
You need to start with a brief - a bridge is a solution to a problem, and you need a problem to get a solution.

The brief should include the site (which would also describe the span of the bridge, the nature of the obstacle to be spanned [ie: a river or railway, etc.], soil conditions, etc.), the intended use of the bridge (and thus what the loads on it will be, whether motorised traffic, rail, pedestrian, etc.) and budget, and any other design criterias required (such as aesthetics, surrounding buildings, etc.).

From there you can design the structure based on how far you need it to span, whether or not you can have mid-span supports (and how many, at what spacing), the structure of those mid-span supports, the materials/construction of the bridge (ie: steel or concrete), the method of spanning (ie: suspension, post %26amp; beam, pivot, etc.), live loads to accommodate (traffic, pedestrian, etc.), dead loads to accommodate (road construction, rail, etc.), wind/watercourse resistance, and so on.
Reply:this should help get you started........http://www.pghbridges.com/basics.htm
Reply:I would be a bit cautious of using a bridge designed by someone who can't even spell the word.
Reply:Use the simple pre-Roman style of bridge. A stone slab laid over some large stones at the ends. When used if it stays up then it is adequate, if it breaks then it requires a heavier slab.

That is it at its simplest

Anyone with good ideas for a business school T-shirt design?

I need to design a T-shirt for my college's business school. The dean wants something presentable, but the students want something cool and funky. I decided that a black collared t-shirt would look presentable, but I'm stuck at the design of the shirt and slogan. Does anyone have any ideas on how to relate business to cool and funky? Thanks a lot for helping!

Anyone with good ideas for a business school T-shirt design?
im agree with u about black collared t-shirt. to looks funky, best way is using contrast in color. like black %26amp; white. some thing like some black handwriting on white paper. it makes ur designe more attractive. but i think it needs frame in 3 sides to control its excitement.

What dress should I wear to a design exhibition?

I'm going to the private view of an exhibition by final year Goldsmiths design students. I'd really like a new dress to wear that's kind of quirky but still flattering and affordable. I'm a size 18 so I don't want anything too revealing - but I'm not averse to a bit of cleavage! Any ideas?

What dress should I wear to a design exhibition?
Wear nothing!!!!

It's all good!
Reply:These events are always crowded, so the top part of you is what will be visible. Gorgeous and unusual earings are the types of things that people will comments on, I have found, not fabulous shoes as with other types of events.

How about a long skirt and a low cut top with amazing earrings and a huge ring with coordinated nail polish that people will see while you are carrying around your complimentary wine!

I always find shopping for jewellery fun, too. it means that if you don't happen to come accross a dress you love, there is no panic.

Have a good time.

What is the name of the professional design softwear package for graphic and fashion students?

I want to buy a relation softwear that they were advised to get by their college for fashion design. A few years ago it was really, really expensive but has come down in price now. Is it photoshop, or something similar? help would be appreciated, or further recommendation.

What is the name of the professional design softwear package for graphic and fashion students?
Software fashion means "everybody's doing it!" - which in turn means "you're mad if you're not doing it too." A direct consequence (which can also recursively feed back into the hype and overselling) is the inappropriate use of a new product or technology: like using Black %26amp; Decker's amazing new UltraHammer to fit a light bulb, or like a fat girl in a crop top.

In the software world, some examples of inappropriate usage are: EJB for a small ecommerce app; extreme programming for a short-term project with stable requirements; Struts for a web project where plain old JSP + JavaBeans would do the job handsomely; taglibs where adding a new meta-language rewards the team with nothing but confusion; or Model 2, design pattern mania where someone on the team has read GOF and hence decided to shoehorn as many design patterns as possible into their design.

Design pattern usage is often seen as an end in itself. Robin (intrepid co-author of this article) was once asked during a job interview: "What's your favourite design pattern?" What's the correct response to that? "Oh, Decorator every time! Yeah, I use it for everything!"

Web services technology also gets more than its fair share of misuse. Web services are great, if that's really what you need. The problem arises when people use web services "just because", or apply web services inappropriately, like using SOAP as an internal messaging bus.

When hype overtakes a person's ability to appraise a technology objectively, then of course it's going to start to be used for the wrong things.

What should I know in starting up my own web design business?

I have some experience supporting a large website, but not with the entire design process yet. But I really enjoy doing this type of work and would love to make money doing it. I have most of the software I think I would need (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, etc), as well as space with a hosting service. I am still working on my personal website and I don't have much to include for a personal portfolio yet. What would be the best steps to take to really venture out on my own by starting my own web design business and find potential customers? With all of the 'do it yourself' templates out now, is there a big demand for this type of work still?

What should I know in starting up my own web design business?
First, be sure you're good at it. I know that sounds really critical, but there are a lot of people out there that enjoy designing websites and 'think' that they're good, but they aren't. Make sure you add value to the industry.

Next, try getting business owners you know to hand over their website design requirements. Build one or two for little cost. You'll build references and a portfolio.

Then try to find places to gather new clients. Do you fit into a niche where no one else offers a good service? Do you provide back-end programming or just front-end design? Market to specific clients and serve that sector well! You can also find websites like elance.com and others that allow you to bid on open project requests.

Do good work, always treat your clients right and keep strong referral networks going. Never stop networking. Best of luck!
Reply:Associations may be a good avenue to explore. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* How to Start a Home-Based Web Design Business, 2nd by Jim Smith

* The Real Business of Web Design Paperback by John Waters

* Professional Web Design: Techniques and Templates by Clint Eccher, Eric Hunley, Erik Simmons

There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success %26amp; happiness in all your ventures!

What should my daughter major in if she wants to design furniture for a career?

She wants to design furniture and possibly some architecture and interior design. She also wants to travel the world, maybe for college/instruction abroad. I want to make sure I'm pointing her in the direction of her dreams. Also, what are some good "in the meantime" jobs (for a teen/young adult with no experience) to shoot for that are line with her dreams?

-thanks!

What should my daughter major in if she wants to design furniture for a career?
In the meantime job would be like a department store in the home section because they are always getting up to date styles. And I am taking courses at The Art Institute for interior design and you have to take a bunch of furniture design classes there. Maybe you could look them up online.
Reply:She can major in furniture design, or product design, quite specifically. That major is often found at art schools, and at universities with expansive art programs. She can certainly major in architecture or interior design, and take a minor in furniture or product design - may actually be an interesting combo.

If she chooses to study architecture or interior design, she needs to focus on schools that are appropriately professionally accredited in those areas. Otherwise, she may have trouble finding a job afterwards, or have trouble obtaining a license, where that is needed.

While she's studying the field, she should try to do a co-op or internship. This will not only enhance her portfolio, but it will also give her related work experience, making it more likely that she'll find a good job when she graduates.

For right now, without experience, she can try to find a job in something somewhat related. I suggest that she look at retail stores as possibilities. If she can't get a job in retail because she doesn't have any work experience yet, she should start in food service. Yes, I know it's not directly related to her future career, but it will give her working experience, and exposure to customers. She can take that experience and later apply to a retail store, and they'll be more likely to hire her. And food service experience looks fine on a college application.

Her best bet to jump right into retail without work experience is if she has a friend already working somewhere. If they recommend her, employers will be more likely to overlook her lack of experience, and she'd get a jump-start.

Its one of the new popular majors.

I'm doing a project on conservatory construction. got to design and build . any suggestions?

Got a project at college to design and build a conservatory . don't really know where to start. Guess it would be size, building regs and planning permission and the types of foundations. I would appreciate any help. Need to use CAD aswell to design it.

I'm doing a project on conservatory construction. got to design and build . any suggestions?
Suggest you log on to your local council web site look under building control/planning, this should give a guide to planning permissions and building regs required for conservatory.

As for other information on foundations there are plenty of web sites out there and you should have access to technical books from college or you could try wickes, they will have a leaflet on technical info which may help with how you want to present it on CAD
Reply:Go to B%26amp;Q and pick up all of the catalogues and free leaflets that you get.Pretty much all of the information that you will need will be there.

What is the best way to build a customer base for an dynamic web design company?

I have vested intrest in a year old web design company. My problem is this, whats the most effective way to get the word out about this company with out resorting to sale reps. and cold calling? No freelance websites, a client gets what they pay for with those sites. Any suggestion would help, I'm open to any suggestion!

What is the best way to build a customer base for an dynamic web design company?
I think sales reps are your best way, but you should be able to find ones that work on commission only basis.

You'll can find them in odd places like the kid running the copier machine in Staples, Office delivery people, etc.

Get in touch with them on there off-hours and get some business cards in there hands. If they send work your way give them a cut. You might be able to find low paid store workers through craigs list.

They can use the "hey tell them I sent you and they'll give you a good deal" or "These guys have awesome talent thell hook you up nice" pitches.

Nothing like paying out of profits.

How easy is it to find a design job in California before moving out there?

I want to move to California (San Diego or San Francisco/surrounding) but I dont want to move out there without a job. How easy is it to find a design job in California when right now I am living in Chicago, and are out of state applicants automatically tossed to the bottom of the pile?

How easy is it to find a design job in California before moving out there?
If you have experience, and education then put together a resume and portfolio and submit them to design companies in the areas you want to move to. You might mention in your cover letter you plan on relocating to California. Before you do this I would make sure you have some money saved, $6000.00 to $10,000 at least and be ready to move on a moments notice if you get a job offer.

Keep and eye here http://www.apartmentratings.com/ for apartments, whats good, whats bad and whats available so you are not living in a motel too long once you get here.

I would guess if you have the talent they are looking for they would hire you as long as you were willing to move at your own expense.
Reply:Post a link to your resume here and post it on the major job websites. Look at Craigslist (San Francisco) for the best local SF job listings. I know of current opportunities for CAD operators. Your assumption that out of state applicants are tossed to the bottom of the pile is false. Employers do however, want to guarantee that an extended offer will be accepted. Your statement that "I want to move to California" is a good indication that you are an acceptable candidate for a SF or San Diego location. If your Job Objective on the first line of your resume is moving to California, I cannot image that anyone would place that at the bottom of a pile.

What would they call a profession where writing and graphic design are combined?

I have a Bachelors degree in English but to continue, my heart is not only on writing but graphic or visual communication, such as backgrounds and layouts for brochures and ads, photo touch ups, and even designing web pages. I always thought that enhancing print with visual aids would be worthwhile.

Is there a particular area for this, would it be classified under Communication Arts or Multimedia design? And is it possible to double major in graduate school?

What would they call a profession where writing and graphic design are combined?

Reply:Technical communications is one such field; communications another. Both are available in graduate schools. There are crossovers in grad schools, but, insofar as I can tell, doubling in grad school is less than wonderful as a way to live. The University of Tennessee has graduate curricula in both fields.

I want to start my own graphic design business. How do I get started?

I want to design logos, letterheads, prayer cards and other items for missionaries around the world from my home, but I don't know how to get started.

I want to start my own graphic design business. How do I get started?
Hi,

I have a suggestion for you. I think you should turn your graphic design skills into an Internet business.

That way you will be able to link up with missionaries worldwide pretty easily.

Despite what many will tell you, starting a successful Internet business can be inexpensive and lots of fun, as well as luctrative.

The advantage of an Internet business is that it can be done on a zero budget if you are prepared to do it all yourself.

Doing it all yourself is a good thing because it means you stay in control.

The other advantage is you get to tap into a world wide market and can do it from home in your own time.

Essentialy, an Internet business gives you a lot of freedom.

All you need to successfully start your own Internet business is knowledge and passion about a topic, any topic, and the time to make it work.

Graphic design sounds like a great topic area for you since you are knowledgeable and passionate about it.

Everything else, including all the tools, tutorials, techniques etc to start an Internet business are available free if you know where to look.

I have written / am writing a DIY website specifically aimed at people who want to start their own Internet business on their own terms.

It is essentially a series of step-by-step tutorials that takes you from where you are now to a successful business owner.

The address is

http://www.diy-website-marketing-strateg...

It's totally free.

If you have any trouble with any of the tutorials, contact me via the website and I'll help you out any way I can.

All the best.

Reply:well, i assume you do not have that much of start up capital. if thats the case, call up all the printing stores you can find in the business phone directory. your target are those that do not have in-house designers. offer a commission for every person that they delegate to you. actually, i myself am planning to set up a printing business without an in-house designer. so, my plan is to actually look for freelance designers who i can delegate to.
Reply:You obviously will need experience first. If you don't have that, there's no point in starting a business. If you do, I recommend calling other graphic artists in your area and asking how they got started.

How do you put a slide design on a single slide?

So I'm doing a PowerPoint, and I want to have a different slide design on each slide. But whenever I try to change one slide's slide design, all of the slides change to that design. Help?

How do you put a slide design on a single slide?
I assume that u'r using Powerpiont XP or later version.

If u simply click on the design u want to apply u will have all the slide have the same design.

But if u just bring the mouse over the design u will see that a arrow has appeared at the side of that design click that arrow and u will get a list. In that list u will see a option as "apply to selected slides" click that and u will have the current slide have the design u chose without overriding the design of others.

Reply:Ikea has an amazing kitchen planner. You can enter in the size of your kitchen and move around cabinets, sinks, tables, etc.

The only hitch is that you generally have to fill it with stuff Ikea sells - of course that doesn't mean you have to buy it! I used it when I was planning I remodel just to get a sense of what different set-ups would look like. I thought it was a lot of fun to play around with so, depending on her age and level of skill on a computer, your daughter may like it too.

What are the key differences between an experiment and correlational study? Need to design a study using?

experimental design but in order to show how this is different from a correlational study..

Think c.s is where it is often not possible to do conventional study - such as link between smoking respitory diseases but was not sure how to design a study, using experimental design which tested for people's fears about certain animals without potentially contravening bps guidelines..

Just stuck - any help much appreciated.

What are the key differences between an experiment and correlational study? Need to design a study using?
I'm not an expert in this area, but it seems to me you are on the right track.

For instance, a correlational study might look at variables that cannot be manipulated for the purposes of the study. For instance, is height correlated with how much people earn? Or, is intelligence correlated with marital happiness? You would be giving subjects tests and surveys to answer these questions, but could not manipulate the variables. In addition, I don't think that there is a "control group" for comparison purposes.

On the other hand, an experimental study involves comparing two groups - and manipulating the variables. For instance, let's say the question is, "Does caffeine improve test performance?"

Group 1 would have your subjects come to the lab and take some kind of test, making sure that they had had no caffeine within the last 24 hours, or some such scenario.

Group 2 would have the same group of subjects come to the lab, drink a cup of coffee (or something) 20 minutes before taking a similar version of the first test (so there are no practice effects), and then comparing Group 1 and Group 2's scores to see if there was any significant difference.

Something like that.

How Can kick-start my graphic Design Portfolio?

I am passionate about graphic design, despite not having relevant graphic design qualifications. I'd like to start a freelance portfolio as I would need to appear professional when I contact companies. Though, not having done any work before for any companies, how would I start my portfolio? I'd like any views on my dilemma from professionals and those in the Graphic Design field especially freelance artists.

How Can kick-start my graphic Design Portfolio?
To have an impressive porfolio, you need to just do it, even it's free. Do some free graphic design for people. Because on your resume, you don't have to put down whether it was working for free or not. Try get your name everywhere and specify that you're nice enough to design for free. Try to learn from other established graphic designers, how they market themselves. Take a look at some of the profiles on benefito and see what kind of porfolio those people have.
Reply:Why don't you request that companies place a request to you for graphic design. You will find that the companies will have an idea in mind that they want you to develop for them.
Reply:Go to various non-profit/volunteer groups in your area and offer your services for no charge. Then use the material you create for them as your portfolio. So you will be helping others and yourself, you can't lose.

What goes in to a Graphic Design portfolio for college?

I'm applying to art schools and I've done some stuff with graphic design and I have no idea what to put in my portfolio. I've done things on illustrator, foundation drawings done from observation %26amp; still-life, things I did last year in my AP art class, black and white ink drawings done for "basic graphic design" class. I have no idea what to use. Anyone that's applied as a Graphic Design major before know what they used in their portfolio? I'm thinking about RISD, Pratt, and Syracuse if that has any relevance.

What goes in to a Graphic Design portfolio for college?
When i applied for graphic design they asked us to draw on a certain theme

How about try talking to you art teacher if possible.

What the colleges look for is strong drawing skills, good use of colour, originality, a variety of subjects.
Reply:Most schools have guidelines for your portfolio. First you need so many still life, then so many life, and so on. The school will not allow other people's work i.e. superman. You should have a variety of work that shows your talent and your creativity. You should have items that are your best. When you are asked about a piece of your work you should never say well it is the best I could come up with, but remember art is never finished. It is a trick question ;)

So contact the school and ask for a portfolio list and go from there. Good luck art colleges are the best.
Reply:Whatever the guidelines you get from the schools to which you wish to apply, be sure to include only the BEST of your best work. Don't think that a large quantity of mediocre work will be better than a small quantity of excellent work.

Whether a buying art director, or an admissions dean, no one is going to waste a lot of time slogging through a couple of dozen substandard pieces. If the first few don't impress, they won't bother with the rest.
Reply:Put in what you think portrays your talent and your idea of what design is. i think what you mentioned that you have are excellent pieces to include in your portfolio. You have a good combination to show that your knowledge is much more than one area. You have pieces to show you can draw, that you can function in Illustrator and that you've worked with basic design. Pick what you think are the best and you won't go wrong.

Make sure that it's pleasing to the eye so they see that you're aware of good presentation.
Reply:I don't know much about applying to an art school, but my boyfriend is attending the art institute in pheonix, arizona. For his portfolio, I believe just included the best of his computer graphics work from illustrator, photoshop and amorphium. You might want to ask you computer graphics teacher to give you their opinion on which of your art works are better. In a Portfolio you want to put your best foot forward so you should pick whatever pieces you think are the best, I hope this helps ^ ^
Reply:Contact at least one of those schools... they should have a portfolio day where you can speak with representatives from a number of art schools on one day... the representatives will give you feedback on your portfolio. [I'm pretty sure that RISD has such a portfolio day... I know MICA does]

Secondly ask what they require in an applicant portfolio... they may have specific requirements.

good luck

Is it required to know how to use a sewing machine before entering Fashion Design school?

I've sewn so many stuff manually (just needle and thread) already like shirts and jeans and vests but i dont know how to use a sewing machine! I'm also a little scared of the possibly snobbish hipster classmates im gonna have when i enter Design School.

So do i have to learn all the basics beforehand before entering?

Is it required to know how to use a sewing machine before entering Fashion Design school?
I'll tell you about my personal experience:

I really wanted to get into fashion design but had very little sewing experience. I was pretty good at sketching ideas but that's about it. I did hand sew a Halloween costume for myself that turned out alright but nothing all that professional. I decided to apply to FIT - it was insane. There were about 50 other people all waiting in a big room where we all had to draw an outfit right then. Then we each got to go up to this table of about 5 people for an "interview" - it lasted about 5 minutes. They flipped through my portfolio of sketches, glanced at the photo of the costume I made, smiled, and moved on to the next person. Needless to say, I didn't get in. Most of the people there seemed to be VERY prepared. Some had full on elaborate costumes and couture dresses that they pulled out of bags. Others had huge portfolios of fashion drawings and photographs of their work. If you are planning on applying to a high-end fashion school in a place like New York, I suggest you do LOTS of preparing. Not to be discouraging, but it is very competitive and I regret not doing more. I ended up taking a few sewing courses at the local community college and realized that making clothes is not for me. Most fashion schools expect you to know how to use an industrial machine right away. They even told me that at the interview. When I said I didn't know how to use one, I could tell I lost my chance right then.

Well that's just what happened to me. If you are REALLY good you might be able to get away with not knowing how to use one, but make sure every other part of your skills are very good. Or maybe take a few sewing courses ahead of time - it will really pay off in the end. Good luck!
Reply:Almost certainly. Hand sewing takes a lot longer, and usually doesn't look as professional. You'll do much better if you have a sewing machine.

But they're really, really easy to use.
Reply:If you're going to a fahion design school then you'd need to know the basics of block patterns, hand and machine sewing, garment manufacture, etc.
Reply:It'd come in handy to have at least mastered a basic home sewing machine before you are expected to start sewing your designs, but a fair number of students will not have sewn before the introductory sewing class at some schools. Still, you'd be far ahead learning some basic machine techniques.

You might want to borrow a copy of Connie Amaden Crawford's book Guide to Fashion Sewing, written for her students at FIDM to see what the minimum level of functioning with a machine will be expected. These are ready to wear sewing techniques adapted for home sewing machines, and can save you a lot of time when you learn them -- this will give you more time to design instead of sew.

You might also want to borrow the series of videotapes/dvds done by the Islander Sewing Systems group. Being able to knock out a zipper insertion in five minutes is a definite advantage! And the fabric handling techniques she demonstrates will keep your sewing accurate and nearly pinless.
Reply:it mite just come in handy you think?

Whats a good way to find graphic design work?

I've been studying graphic design for years and am now trying to make a business of it, but I'm not sure how to get started. Please help!

Whats a good way to find graphic design work?
i suggest u can work as inhouse designer first then learned from it or u can be a freelancer at first and start to have ur portfolio and a website as well. marketing urself to be noticed is a good way of selling urself to the clients.. and if they like ur work they can negotiate things with u.

u can have an advertising business for print or tv or logo, packaging design. well, start with the basic yet simple and a CLICK business concept. Why bother? ur an artist, u have ur own unique way of how to start ur business. the secret is just believe in the law of attraction.

IF YOU DONT MIND,

I WANT TO ASK U WHERE UR SCHOOL AND WHATS UR NATIONALITY.. BECAUSE IM ALSO AN ASPIRING GRAPHIC DESIGNER FROM THE PHIL. THANKS

I want to know more efficient design of piston cutting of diesel engines to convert to CNG?

To get proper compression ratio, pistons of diesel engines have to cut.

I don't like since it can effect life of piston, and still suspect performance of engine after cutting. Can anyone give me better idea of how I can change compression ratio or better design of piston cutting.

Try this question useing the Queens English.

I am a certified MASTER ASE diesel and auto tech, in the business since 1966, and I don't have CLUE as to what you are talking about.

What is the most stable structural design for an underground bunker to support the weight of the earth above?

What is the most stable load bearing structural design for say a bunker built 100 ft below the earth that can support the weight coming down on it? What would be the most efficient way to distribute that weight? Also include the shape of the room if it comes into play.

What is the most stable structural design for an underground bunker to support the weight of the earth above?
A series of relatively small chambers with spherical or arch shape, depending on use closed with flameproof and gas tight doors.Hope never use this kind of equipment.

What are the exercises for entrance exam in Interior Design?

I want to study Interior Design as a BA, but most art and design institutes ask the candidates to do those practical exercises as part of their entrance exam.

1. What are you suppose to do in them?

2. Do I need to be very skilled in sketching or is a simple training good enough?

Many thanks in advance!

What are the exercises for entrance exam in Interior Design?
In addition to what the first person said, you may want to practice doing some journal entries where you observe your surroundings and write what you see. While my school did not require a portfolio or entrance exam until after the first year in the program (we were cut from 80 students to 40 students after taking a year's worth of classes), our portfolio required us to have journal entries where we just wrote about design in everyday life. I would imagine that on an exam they may do something like show you a picture of a building or other enttity and ask you to write about the it and the emotions that it evokes. I'm not talking about sappy writing or saying "the building made me happy", but just things like, "they way the two roof lines merged together asymmetrically further emphasized the energy the architect was trying to create, and that was continued by the activity inside". Some type of BS like that. I would basically make sure your ability to draw, your sense of scale, and your writing ability are tops before entering an exam.
Reply:Not only art schools but colleges and universities usually expect some sort of entrance portfolio. Most of the time they are looking for basic drawing ability: accurate perspective and proportions, effective modeling of the figure to represent dimensionality, thoughtful use of compositional space.

Drawings from direct observation are expected. That means not copying other artworks or redrawing from photographs or making up a scene from your imagination. Any school you are considering should have their criteria for entrance portfolio/exam if you ask.

Obviously the better your skills are, the better your chances but don't get too worried -- just get your portfolio together and see what happens. If you were totally flawless in your artwork already, you wouldn't need to go to school, so keep in mind that reviewers are simply looking for some indication that you have ability to develop.

I doubt the schools are seeking much more than this simply because most high schools aren't offering specialized coursework in design. In theory anyway, looking at basic drawing skills is a fairly equalizing way of comparing prospective students.

What to charge for restaurant menu design?

I've been asked to design a menu for a local restaurant and I need to know what to charge. I've thought about letting him pay in gift certificates since he's just starting out, but again, how much is fair? I figure it will take me about 5 hours to complete with occational updates.

Thanks!

What to charge for restaurant menu design?
Are you in-charge of the "printers" also? or just the design. In your 5 hours does that include more then one design, each one is a different charge, it progresses from simple to exotic. My base charge is 75.00 an hour, that starts from the first word spoken about the designs (the request). Give your customer a price range up-front, that way you won't be wasting your time on unnecessary work. If you are the one that takes the final to print you add 33% to the print charge if it's a laminated menu, if it's a menu that goes into a slip fold menu cover then you add the 33% to the slip folds also.
Reply:I did this 10 years ago, and the going rate was $20-$25 an hour.

I also designed my own, and it is a fun job. I'd like to get back into it since I HATE typos on a menu.
Reply:I'm assuming, since you asked your question here, that you have 'never' done this before, and that you have 'some' education in design, but are not yet a 'professional'. You WILL BE a PROFESSIONAL after you do this, and that can make an 'amazing difference' in your life, but only if two things happen ... you design an 'amazing menu' and the restaurant owner 'loves it' ...

My first question is 'what' are you working with? I take it that this restuarant has an 'older' menu to 'look at' and that your 'design work' is just to 'make it look and work better' ... but do you have to 'design' a 'whole new look' or does the owner have an 'idea' that is 'set in stone'?

Second, when you say 'design' are you saying that you are going to be 'in charge' of a whole new 'look' or that you are only going to be 'assembling' parts that have been used in previous menus? HOW will you 'draw' these designs ... either your own or 'making copies'?

Third ... how much money do you think you would 'charge' a person for 'about five hours of your time'? Let me tell you that your '5 hour estimate' is WRONG ... and you need to 'double that' at the very least. My husband is a 'computer professional' who 'designs websites' and he ALWAYS 'triples' the time he 'thinks' a job will take, when he's giving his 'estimate of cost' because if he has trouble, it may take that long, but if he 'comes in at his 'original estimate' of time, he'll look VERY GOOD when the next job comes down the line.

Then comes the 'scut work' ... which is all of the many 'words and numbers that you'll have to 'factor in' to the finished menu. REMEMBER THAT YOU WILL NEED TO GO OVER IT TO BE SURE EVERYTHING IS SPELLED CORRECTLY, and that there are no 'errors' in the numbers ... which means not just 'once' using a computer program, but at LEAST 4 separate times.

I actually like your idea of accepting 'gift certificates' because you'll then have 'many gifts' that you can give, or you can use them yourself if you enjoy eating at this restaurant ... but the 'amounts' on those gift certificates will be considered 'real money' to the IRS (or the tax people in your country, county, city, area), and you'll have to 'pay taxes' on the total amount ... whether you think that is 'right' or not.

Next, you'll need to 'know' what other restaurants 'pay' to have their own menus 'designed' in your area, especially the restaurants that are 'similar' in PRICE PAID.

Then ... You will NOT get a 'good price' for 'menu design' from most restaurants because they usually have them either done by the 'parent corporation' that owns them (if it's a large 'chain') or by the owners ...

I think that it would probably be 'best' if you 'undercut' yourself a bit because this is your FIRST design. If you would 'like to make' at least $25 an hour doing work like this, then charge your 'first customer' no more than $20 an hour ... and if you can 'lower' your price a bit more comfortably, then make it more like $15 an hour. Present this 'estimated cost' with your 'over-inflated time estimate' and tell him that it is 'just an estimate' and that you will 'try to get it in for a lot less money and in a lot faster time' ... and then do that ...

And my 'last bit of advice' is that you 'dress as a professional' when you are doing this 'work' even if the ownere of the restaurant is your brother and he sees you in your 'sweats' more often ... in fact, it's when it's a situation like that that it is MOST IMPORTANT for you to 'dress and act like a professional' if that is what you truly want to become. Yes, this is TRUE even if you are a teenager, and are just 'playing' with this ... because what you do NOW will 'reflect' on the type of 'professional' you are going to be no matter what it is you'll be doing in the future. GOOD LUCK!

How do you get a job/training in weapon design?

My fiance is in the Army. He wants to get a job in weapon designing and testing. What kind of education or training can you get, and how do you get the job. He wants to actually design the weapon (drawings and all) and then possibly test the end result. This is only for serious answers please.

How do you get a job/training in weapon design?
He needs a strong back ground in Mechanical and design engineering.I suggest at the least a BA in one of these fields, and preferable a masters. After he gets his degree he can start looking for a position in the field he wants. He should go on line and check out fire arm manufacturers, and put out some feelers.Mechanical and design engineering covers a wide scope of things.

How do I know if web design is the right career for me?

I am interested in going back to school to obtain a web design degree. How do I know this is right for me?

How do I know if web design is the right career for me?
The best way was pointed out to you by the previous poster. This is all there is with web design.

I use frontpage and notepad. Making actual pages is easy, php is what's often behind them to make them work lol. Coding can be dreary and I am not even a coder, just messing with it. Either you like it or not.

However another fun way is to take career aptitude tests like this one http://www.job--listings.info/free-aptit... and if you are lucky at the end they might even offer you a job, in any case they'll tell you what suits your own personality, based on the test you took.

there might be a few more tests here http://www.job--listings.info/

hope I helped, cheers
Reply:Simple, go pick up a book on web design or two and try it out for yourself. It is pretty easy to pick up. You may want to focus on one aspect of web development in particular at first such as XHTML, HTML, PHP, etc..., but their are also books that provide well rounded overall looks at web design.

If you want a free place to start, check out www.w3schools.com.

After you try it out for a bit and determine if you like it, then you will know better if you want to go to school.

What would be a good way for me to design my room?

i am 14 and i would like to re design my room more sophisticated. what would be a good way to design (paint color??) i have quite a large room and a queen sized bed. and also i would like to hang some artwork in my room. i am not quite sure what to paint it, i only have 1 small window and my bed room is in the basement.

What would be a good way for me to design my room?
Go for warm colors since you're in the basement. Blues perhaps? Or, my daughter has a brown and blue room- her rug has blue and gold flowers and a brown background which is really cool. Get a "pottery barn teen" magazine and get some ideas from that! I'd hang fun lamps and put up a ton of pics of you and your friends- make a picture wall! Also, my daughter has white christmas lights hung around the border of her room which makes it look really funky. Have fun!
Reply:You are in luck...Target is now coming out with their dorm room accessory line....it's all relatively affordable to be on a college student's budget. Here are some items from their site that might be nice...

I hope this helps. I kept in mind that these items would go well together. Let the items you choose to go in your room be your inspiration for a them and wall color.

What will be a best design for an easter egg?

what do you think is the best easter egg design? i have a project about this but my design seems to be similar to others. i want to know more about designs of easter egg. can anyone suggest me one? thanks.

What will be a best design for an easter egg?
How creative are you? How about Faces? This is going a bit off the rails but there was this amusing photo of eggs decorated as people in the news ; faces of Hitler and Stalin and Churchill and FDR leap to mind, since you are a historian. In fact I know of a teacher who had his students paint the face of their favorite President. But you could keep it smiler and simply do comic faces.

If faces do not grab you then what about everyday products?? Logos such as Coke-A-Cola and Pepsi leap to Mind - - - - and crazy phrases done 'graffiti' style such as warnings 'don't open until March 23rd' or 'Fragile' or 'This End Up' and perhaps my favorite 'Do Not Fold.'

Hmm mm mm - - - still got faces on the brain. How about Superheros? Batman %26amp; Superman and the Incredible Hulk and the Fantastic Four all are options.

Oh and a final bit of whimsy. Buildings!!! Once saw an entire Western Town done on eggs ;; the Smithy, the Saloon, the Jail, with windows and doors, an Outhouse Egg would be a Hoot. Have fun but please don not limit yourself to zig zags and dots and splotches. Go on line and look at the Russian Faberage (mispelled) Eggs for ideas!!

What field of study should I go into to design the floorplans of houses, public buildings, etc?

I want to design houses. I love drawing out the floorplans and choosing where all the fixtures go and the different styles you can make a house have (inside and out). I am pretty good at it and want to do that for a living. Am I going for a degree in Architecture or architectural design? Is there anyone out there who does this for a living? Anyone know of any schools (preferably in the midwest) where I can acheive my goals?

What is the best university in Australia for Graphic Design?

Communication design to be exact.

I am currently doing NCEA in New Zealand.

Also what subjects should i take in college (high school)

I have chosen 3 so far.

English

Art

Graphics

Maths (Calculus)

what other subjects should i take? Art History? Programming?

What is the best university in Australia for Graphic Design?
i would go for uts in sydney and do design in visual communication. there are also a few private colleges but i wouldnt know whats best, maybe billy blue.

p.s you probably have better high school subjects compared to us but if it's between art history and programming, i would go programming because you'll probably learn of a few important movements and artists in 'Art' and you would most likely be concentrating more on designers in uni.

hope that helps.

How is boolean algebra used to design digital circuitry?

Okay, so it's a big question. I'm a computer programming student interested in neural nets and electronics, so the questions tend to get kind of convoluted these days.

What I'm really curious about is this: Is there a way to take all the possible inputs for a digital circuit, and all the desired outputs, and use that information to design a logical schematic/boolean statement that will solve it? If so do you know how I would go about learning more?

(p.s. I've recently heard of a branch of mathematics called combinatorics that might be related to this.)

How is boolean algebra used to design digital circuitry?
Boolean algebra is very important in digital circuitry. In fact it is the basis for digital logic (it's where bits of information are grouped together from binary to be operated)

In fact binary is quite similar to boolean algebra, after all it is just 1s and 0s or 'ons' and 'offs'.

A good site to learn more is:

http://computer.howstuffworks.com/boolea...

Combinatorics does indeed relate to boolean algebra. Even basic combinatorics implement it to determine the total possible outcomes in operations such as Combinations and Permutations.
Reply:Boolean Algebra is used to design digital circuits.Boolean algebra simplifies the digital circuit. It gives an idea how a logic is implemented.

What is the work like for first year graphic design grads?

So you got the graphic design degree under your belt and managed to score employment at a design firm (or another), considering this will likely be an entry level job, what exactly is the work? What do you do? Can anyone who has been through this experience elaborate?

What is the work like for first year graphic design grads?
That depends on the business you work for. With the current job market it's not so easy to find a good job in the design field. Many of the jobs involve rudimentary skills and no design, or lots of work (having projects dumped on you) for no money.

The problem is the Catch-22 of any business... good places want employees with several years of experience, and there's no way to get the experience when the only places that hire produce projects that won't help with your portfolio.

The people I know have basically designed logos and posters for events and informational materials. They work in smaller shops with other people who have no formal design education, and they print, cut, and pack everything themselves.
Reply:some people are luckier than others. A lot of these lucky people probably know someone good in the business or are at the right place at the right time. Me for example I am currently an assistant auditor for cameron county texas fulltime and a webmaster/designer parttime working at home. At the moment Im not making much from my design stuff but I'm working on that. Check out my site.

What is the best way to design a portfolio for art to show array of art types for college?

I partly know that you can use a book and fill it full of photos of your work but the information that needs to be added with it is more of the problem. Does anyone know of sites that ask for a 'list' of items and information which is typical for an art %26amp; design portfolio?

What is the best way to design a portfolio for art to show array of art types for college?
It depends on the school. Most schools will have specific portfolio requirements as far as the method of presentation (slides vs. CD for example), but you can also usually find them at a National Portfolio Day and meet with representatives to have your work looked at in person. The schools may also have specific pieces they want to see. For example, last I knew, RISD required a bicycle drawing and Montserrat wanted two self-portraits. They'll also list the info they want to know about each piece, usually the title, date, and medium, sometimes a short description too. The best way to find all this information is to check with each school you're going to apply to and find out their requirements.

If you're looking for advice on what else to put in, your art teachers should be able to help you, or the representatives at a National Portfolio Day. Generally though, drawing from life (not photos), especially figure drawing is really good. Stay away from anime drawings unless that's specifically what you're going for (and even then, be sure to include basic drawing stuff). The point is to show them that you have a good foundation from which to build, not that you're already a pro at what you're doing, but if you're applying for a specific area, it doesn't hurt to include a heavier concentration in that area, especially if you're applying as a transfer student and not a foundation student.

Good luck!
Reply:Great question. First I would say instead of doing photo's of your work try to get it on a CD-rom. Most colleges will accept work in that manner. Make sure that the photo or CD is good. You want them looking at your work and not bad lighting. In terms of info about your work it typically looks like this

NAME OF WORK

Medium

Size

Year you made it

You should make a label and place it underneath the image. Remember to put your name on it as well. The info you need is quite similar to the labels you might see at a Gallery or musuem.
Reply:Each art school has their own requirements. CD is a great way but many schools want more than that. In my experience most schools no matter what area you are aiming for want to see a good level of drawing. Notebooks are a great way to illustrate your thinking methods (BUT BE SELECTIVE!!) If you are going to show drawings, or photos etc get an a1 size portfolio, which generally have space for notebooks. Mount everything properly onto large sheets or card. Presentation is everything. In an age where artists organise their own shows, marketing etc it is important to illustrate that you care enough about your work to present it well.

If you are thinking a cd is a better option, MAKE SURE the school accepts them. If the person assessing you doesn't have a computer right beside them they are not going to look at it. Sounds harsh but they have hundreds of applicants, only a small number of places, and only a few days to view them so any application that is in any way hassle to view, it won't be viewed

best of luck, be sure to check the requirements of the individual art schools
Reply:you can get a portfolio box from silverprint on-line. These are what uni students use and they are really smart. Always make sure your images are positioned in the same place on each page and the same size to allow easy viewing.

Put the title

The series the work is from (if there is one)

The year it was created

and if you are leaving it with other people you should always type your name on the back of each image so they can be kept together.

Hope this helps.

Reply:I would probably proceed carefully. I have several friends that wanted to leave the legal profession. I'd do a little research first to see what kind of careers are available. Do you want to go into design or would you rather decide what is sold in stores?

I'd look at evening classes if possible or read some books to gain more technical experience. Once you start making accessories or clothing, it might be easier to attract capital.

Also examine the possibility that leaving the legal field may not make you happier. It's a broad field and you might find something that is more suited to your interests that utilizes your specialized skills and education.

I need to design the landscape of a small back yard. Any tips?

I see a lot of books on designing large gardens, but we live in California and have a very small back yard that we'd like to liven up (right now it's just mulch). Is it worth hiring a contractor? Is there good landscape design software we could use to help do it on our own?

I need to design the landscape of a small back yard. Any tips?
HGTV offers an online tutorial.

If you are cramped for space. I'd plant vertically...Tall, skinny shrubs, climbing plants, hang baskets from fence, house, etc. Save all the ground space you have for you to move around in and enjoy. Potted plants offer lots of versatility. If you get tired of where they are or need that space later, just move them.

P.S. Keep the mulch away from the foundation of the house. It give bugs easier access to basements and crawlspaces.
Reply:First level your yard and make sure all fences/boundary plantings are in place then put in any paths, decks, patios or other permanent fixtures or buildings. Next plant trees or any large shrubs. You then will see how much yard you have left to make gardens or lawns. When planting gardens my experience has been trial and error. Meaning your flower gardens are always a work in progress and you should feel free to try new plants. If something doesn't seem to work for you try moving it to another spot. I think as long as you get the "bones" of your garden in place the rest gradually happens over time with beautiful results.
Reply:Software may exist but it may be expensive. In my opinion the best place to start is by choosing the location of your patio. Consider the location of windows and doors on your house, as well as on neighbor homes for privacy. Also consider the orientation of your backyard to the sun. For example, if your backyard faces south, you will probably want to plant trees on the south side to shade the patio and house.

After placing your patio and determining how large you would like it, take note of how much space remains around it. Plant trees to block the sun on the appropriate sides. Be sure they have enough room to grow (choose species with upright growth patterns if it is a really small backyard.) Don't plant tall growing trees underneath powerlines (housedrops). After your trees are planted, fill in gaps with decorative stone, shrubs, and flowering groundcovers. I like to look through magazines to get ideas for species and how to use decorative stone to accent plants.

If it is easier, design and build the backyard one step at a time, over multiple weeks or months. First the patio, then the trees, then some shrubs, then groundcover and rock.

Alternatively, some nurseries will assist in completing a landscape plan, so ask around. Or have a contractor design something for you. You will save a lot of money implementing their design yourself, plus you can make sure things get planted the correct way.
Reply:Before you spend any money on a contractor or software go out to a few nurseries of places like Home Depot to get some ideas from the people that work there about plants and materials. I would try to give you some ideas but in NY we might be using different plants and materials based on what will gro well.
Reply:I've actually been contemplating undertaking a similar project with my wife. We already have a built in patio made of cement (with brick accents) and definitely don't have the money for a contractor to redesign the entire concept. We want to keep costs under 2 grand including plants and other materials.

My wife teaches art in elementary school so she's already been using a diagramming tool called SmartDraw to do some lesson plans and illustrations, but it also does floor plans and landscape designs. It's not 3D, but you can import photos into it so you can make it fairly realistic.

I've found it's been good for designing general layout of different areas and even experimenting with what kind of colors and plant types I want to put where.

To give you an idea, you'll probably end up with stuff that kind of looks like this:

http://www.smartdraw.com/examples/previe...

You can download SmartDraw from http://www.smartdraw.com but it might be pricey if all you're gonna do is landscaping.

An additional tip that I just learned is using curved lines and circles instead of just straight lines helps spaces seem bigger. I think if you have a small space like us, it's tempting to preserve as much of the open area as you can by concentrating plants along the edge in a straight line. But I have a designer friend, who just had their garden done who says I have to try planting things a bit irregularly or in curves and I'll like the results.

Where can I go online to design my own baby doll for my daughter?

I've been looking through the internet for a site to desgin my own doll to look like my daughter. I want to be able to design it online, and be able to buy it. Have any ideas?

Where can I go online to design my own baby doll for my daughter?
The same company that owns the Build-A-Bear workshop stores you see in the malls have a new store that allows your child build a "friend" -- you can find more information and store locations at the Friens 2B Made website:

www.friends2bmade.com

You can pick hair %26amp; skin color and the clothes the doll wears.
Reply:i'm not sure about a doll but go to:

www.buildabearworkshop.com or something like that and you can design one online i think...i don't know it's what i did for my niece...
Reply:American Girl dolls do something like that. You pick the hair type and color, skin color, eye color, outfits, etc.

How much energy is used to design and manufacture a wind turbine?

What would be the energy consumption to produce one wind turbine, taking into account absolutely everything, from the design engineer's power consumption on his pc to the manufacture of metal or plastic parts to the to the energy consumption of the cement manufacture for the concrete base?

How long would it take for this turbine to produce a energy "payback" ?

How much energy is used to design and manufacture a wind turbine?
yeah the amount of carbon dioxide sent into the atmosphere making one of these things is going to be a lot , they never mention that and i dont think this is about cash.

it isn't going to pay back for 10 years in terms of the amount of carbon emissions it saves from coal protestations

i was told this by a university lecturer , i dint know how he knows this but he also mentioned that there are tidal power stations that are much greener but with currant technology they dont produce enough power

if we dont reduce carbon emissions by 100% in 20 years the climate will change forever destroying the rainforest's polar ice caps and coral reefs

so those wind turbines could be a source of power even when there is a very small population left

they could help us repopulate in a mad max scenario.
Reply:Your question is a great one. It would be very hard to answer accurately. I have often thought of the same thing as I have used photo voltaic for my electric for many years on my island. It took a lot of energy to manufacture these panels and batteries. Think of all the pollution. Think of all the commuting of the workers involved in the manufacturing of the glass, aluminum, lead etc. I saw a bumper sticker once that said------Help decrease pollution-Commit suicide! Now that's a deep thought!
Reply:domestic turbines in GB. is a total waste of money the one being promoted at the time is beautifully constructed, but would do no more good than a status symbol, since it produces I KVA in a25MPH wind check how often you get the wind speed of this magnitude and the period of time it will last. the norm would be nearer 30 WATT's! not the answer to your question but relevant to the input energy requiered to manufacture it
Reply:You must add in the energy cost of on-going Maintenance (during its projected life-time) and (of-course) the energy cost of decommissioning and recycling at end of life.

My guess (with todays technology) is 'never' ...
Reply:Nothing to do with energy, farmers get £40,000 a year for a wind turbine on there land. It costs I million to build one that's no taking into consideration maintenance. and no too sure bout this but that would prob power a house no longer than a year. And you can't store power so why are all wind turbines in far away places? Another way to put money in peoples pockets
Reply:What's done is done. Once it's built, only maintenance energy. . This doesn't affect the procurement process so much as the result of course.

To start a business or to go to Fashion Design school?

Here's the deal: I skipped school this year to opt for "rest" but now that I'm totally blank, I want to do something productive and long-term. Now, should I start a small food business and start taking fashion design classes in addition to regular classes?

OR should I go to fashion design now and start a business after graduation?

I like the former, but what do you think?

Any better ideas?

To start a business or to go to Fashion Design school?
Do both. You'll need money to start a business *and* to continue classes.
Reply:For startups and new businesses, I would recommend

What is the best, safest way to brighten white cotton with a colored design that has yellowed in time?

We have a white bedspread with light blue design that has lost its nice bright white look and has taken on a yellowish

dull tinge. We have taken it to the cleaners but they were unable to remove it. I do not know if it was drycleaned or machine washed.

What is the best, safest way to brighten white cotton with a colored design that has yellowed in time?
To whiten clothes that have yellowed, bleach will only make things worse. Find some old fashioned laundry "bluing." It will make whites bright again but follow the instructions carefully or you'll end up with blue tinted clothes.
Reply:I like to use oxyclean. I have made it in to a kina of paste and rubbed it on or just double the amount normally used. I swear by the stuff. Keeps white white and does not effect colors. -- Wow I sound like the comercial;
Reply:The best %26amp; the safest cleaner for your bedspread is WOOLITE, IT CLEANS CLOTHES, COATS, %26amp; BEDSPREADS THAT NEED TO BE TREATED WITH A GENTLE HAND !!
Reply:try the new clorox for colors bleach or just simply wash it in bleach and detergent. i have washed whites with colors in them with bleach and it really does'nt make much diffrence in the color.

What software should i use to design a back-drop of 8m x 6 m ?

Hello everyone, what software should i use to design a backdrop for a stage ? The backdrop should be 8 meters width and 6 meters height. I have tried creating such a canvas size on Adobe Photoshop but my computer froze. Could comeone please advise ? Oh and what DPI should i use for printing ? 300DPI ?

What software should i use to design a back-drop of 8m x 6 m ?
300dpi is recommended for off-set litho printing but large format printers produce great effects at between 200–72dpi, depending on the process.

I would use Adobe Illustrator and do the artwork at 50% (Photoshop will do it at 50% at 200dpi but unless you are creating it all in raster images it will create a 2 Gb file so will dramatically slow your computer) being vector Illustrator will be scaleable. If you have any raster images (photographs etc), depending on the method of printing, they should probably be a minimum of 200dpi at this scale, (so they would be 100dpi at final size). It is unlikely that a printer would be able to handle this in one drop and will split your artwork to sizes they can print. Remember to include bleed so that it can be trimmed down without leaving a white stripe down one side and because large format printers will often slightly distort the proportions. Best thing is to get advice from your printer because there are so many variables.
