How do I learn how to design a website from scratch?

I would like to be able to design a website basically from scratch. Where do I begin? Can I become an expert with DreamWeaver or FrontPage, or is there more to it than just that? I am a beginner who is looking to learn everything about designing, hosting, and managing websites.

Any information to get me started on the right track is appreciated.

How do I learn how to design a website from scratch?
There are numerous tutorials on the Internet to choose from. Are you a visual learner? HTML is the universal language of the Internet. Also, CSS (cascading Style Sheets) are starting to take over as the number one way to format web pages. I'd go to www.w3schools.com and walk through their tutorials first. Dreamweaver is the best edting platform in the world right now. Don't use Front Page as it brings a lot of uneccessary baggage (code) to a site.
Reply:There is no quick bang for bucks or shortcuts in learning all these stuff. You need to get your hand dirty and learn it the hard way if that what it takes and you need to be patient. If you are a beginner, all you need to start off with is a passion to learn and an idea to visualize what you want to accomplish. coding and design is 2 separate discipline but combining skills at both can really get you far. begin with learning all html stuff then css, learn also more about graphics and how it is integrated into a layout design. it's a long step by step learning process but its fun also. get inspiration from other good sites.e.g. look for oswd templates and see how they were done. there's a lot of resources around you, it's given already so all you really need is time and the will to learn. there are books, online resources and the websites where you can find all the information you need.
