Can anyone help me with ideas for a senior design project in Electrical Engineering?

I need to come up with a design project to do, but I am having a hard time because I can't come up with something that isn't too demanding for one semester of time. I want to find something that also is interesting to do. Do you have any ideas? I'm also trying to avoid an overabundant amount of programming, as we are all hardware engineers.

Can anyone help me with ideas for a senior design project in Electrical Engineering?
Use two half wave dipole antennas at right angles to create a circular polarized antenna. Then try and match it to a 50 ohm cable. Hint: feeds might need to be a little off center to match phase and impedance.

bonus marks if your design works for L1, L2 and L5 GPS frequencies, and you build one!

Might be easier to use VHF or UHF and discrete components to pull in weather satellite faxes.

Reply:A three-phase inverter/motor driver. This is what hybrid vehicles are all about. It is the latest rage. Turn an alternator into a 12v 3phase 5hp motor. (just bypass the diode bridge and power up the rotor) Then use a microcontroller to control forward, reverse, and regenerative braking.

Here is the diagram and parts supplier. http://www.irf.com/product-info/auto/std...

International rectifier is the best supplier for heavy duty parts.

After you are done, you can make a little solar car or hybrid cart with the project later on. Or even fuel cell vehicle if you are rich. lol.
Reply:Micro controller based project, such as Robotic … (you can also search in website of the famous university such as MIT, Berkley … or you can ask help from your professors.)

There is a good book named "PIC robotics: a beginner's guide to robotics projects using the PIC micro" by John Iovine,2004. If you can find this book I think it'll help you. It is consist of many robotics projects with their software (Pic Basic) and hardware designs and schematics.
