I already have a bachelors degree and I got a chance to get familiar with Photoshop/Image ready/Illustrator/Flash and I really liked it. I am not able to find a job in my own field (OMIS) and thinking to get a certification in Graphic Design field. Do you know if it is worth to spend 2-3 years and the money? I already have tried to get a job in the GD field as either an intern or a low entry level but no luck by now. Does the certificate help?
How promising is the graphic design field in terms of jobs?Is it worth Time and money getting a degree for it?
Ultimately it because a useless piece of paper. The thing about graphic design and illustration is often it becomes who you know and not necessarily what you know. If you are going for an in-house job then being able to put a diploma on your resume will be helpful, but if you don't have the portfolio to show how good you are it won't mean a thing.
If you aren't too familiar with the software or only have an inkling I would suggest taking the course even if it's just to learn the principles of design and typography. It will also give you work to build up your portfolio when you are ready to go for a job.
It is a tough field to get into, especially if you want to do freelance work, but it can be gratifying and worth it if it is something you love to do.

Reply:Very Much So.
where I used to work some designers make close to 100k a year.
Plus there is so much personal satisfaction.
Go For It!
Reply:Most I talk to can't find jobs in Graphic Design. Or, if they can, the pay isn't very good. But I guess that depends upon where you live and the cost of living.
Check out the newspapers and job postings and see what's going on in that field. Of course, what's happening now won't tell you what the job market will be in 2-3 years when you're ready to hit the streets with your brand new degree.
Good luck
