Hello everyone, what software should i use to design a backdrop for a stage ? The backdrop should be 8 meters width and 6 meters height. I have tried creating such a canvas size on Adobe Photoshop but my computer froze. Could comeone please advise ? Oh and what DPI should i use for printing ? 300DPI ?

300dpi is recommended for off-set litho printing but large format printers produce great effects at between 200–72dpi, depending on the process.

I would use Adobe Illustrator and do the artwork at 50% (Photoshop will do it at 50% at 200dpi but unless you are creating it all in raster images it will create a 2 Gb file so will dramatically slow your computer) being vector Illustrator will be scaleable. If you have any raster images (photographs etc), depending on the method of printing, they should probably be a minimum of 200dpi at this scale, (so they would be 100dpi at final size). It is unlikely that a printer would be able to handle this in one drop and will split your artwork to sizes they can print. Remember to include bleed so that it can be trimmed down without leaving a white stripe down one side and because large format printers will often slightly distort the proportions. Best thing is to get advice from your printer because there are so many variables.
