I want to start my own graphic design business. How do I get started?

I want to design logos, letterheads, prayer cards and other items for missionaries around the world from my home, but I don't know how to get started.

I want to start my own graphic design business. How do I get started?
Hi,

I have a suggestion for you. I think you should turn your graphic design skills into an Internet business.

That way you will be able to link up with missionaries worldwide pretty easily.

Despite what many will tell you, starting a successful Internet business can be inexpensive and lots of fun, as well as luctrative.

The advantage of an Internet business is that it can be done on a zero budget if you are prepared to do it all yourself.

Doing it all yourself is a good thing because it means you stay in control.

The other advantage is you get to tap into a world wide market and can do it from home in your own time.

Essentialy, an Internet business gives you a lot of freedom.

All you need to successfully start your own Internet business is knowledge and passion about a topic, any topic, and the time to make it work.

Graphic design sounds like a great topic area for you since you are knowledgeable and passionate about it.

Everything else, including all the tools, tutorials, techniques etc to start an Internet business are available free if you know where to look.

I have written / am writing a DIY website specifically aimed at people who want to start their own Internet business on their own terms.

It is essentially a series of step-by-step tutorials that takes you from where you are now to a successful business owner.

The address is

It's totally free.

If you have any trouble with any of the tutorials, contact me via the website and I'll help you out any way I can.

All the best.

Reply:You can begin by purchasing Photoshop Elements and take a free online course, Touch Up Digital Photos with Adobe® Photoshop® Elements Software at http://www.pendaflexlearningcenter.com/c... The next one begins on May 28th. Once you're comfortable with Elements or if you already own Photoshop CS2, you can take Adobe Photoshop CS2: introduction at http://h30187.www3.hp.com/courses/overvi... Both courses are taught by the same person.

I hope this helps.

Reply:well, i assume you do not have that much of start up capital. if thats the case, call up all the printing stores you can find in the business phone directory. your target are those that do not have in-house designers. offer a commission for every person that they delegate to you. actually, i myself am planning to set up a printing business without an in-house designer. so, my plan is to actually look for freelance designers who i can delegate to.
Reply:You obviously will need experience first. If you don't have that, there's no point in starting a business. If you do, I recommend calling other graphic artists in your area and asking how they got started.
