What is the work like for first year graphic design grads?

So you got the graphic design degree under your belt and managed to score employment at a design firm (or another), considering this will likely be an entry level job, what exactly is the work? What do you do? Can anyone who has been through this experience elaborate?

What is the work like for first year graphic design grads?
That depends on the business you work for. With the current job market it's not so easy to find a good job in the design field. Many of the jobs involve rudimentary skills and no design, or lots of work (having projects dumped on you) for no money.

The problem is the Catch-22 of any business... good places want employees with several years of experience, and there's no way to get the experience when the only places that hire produce projects that won't help with your portfolio.

The people I know have basically designed logos and posters for events and informational materials. They work in smaller shops with other people who have no formal design education, and they print, cut, and pack everything themselves.
Reply:some people are luckier than others. A lot of these lucky people probably know someone good in the business or are at the right place at the right time. Me for example I am currently an assistant auditor for cameron county texas fulltime and a webmaster/designer parttime working at home. At the moment Im not making much from my design stuff but I'm working on that. Check out my site.
