What field of study should I go into to design the floorplans of houses, public buildings, etc?

I want to design houses. I love drawing out the floorplans and choosing where all the fixtures go and the different styles you can make a house have (inside and out). I am pretty good at it and want to do that for a living. Am I going for a degree in Architecture or architectural design? Is there anyone out there who does this for a living? Anyone know of any schools (preferably in the midwest) where I can acheive my goals?
